New member, Mean GXP in Washington state
« on: November 10, 2013, 10:15:59 PM »
Hi there - new to the board, just picked up an '07 Mean GXP with 41k miles on the clock. It's pretty much stock, but with a handful of add-ons that may or may not stay on the car. I bought it as an autocross and HPDE car, so there is much work to come to get it ready for duty. For now I'm reading and trying to learn as much as I can. Looks like the toughest thing to overcome will be finding wheels in the right size for what I want to do.

Looking forward to lots of good info!

Chris

Nice car Chris and welcome to the forum. You said that there were a handful of add-one ready done to the car. What sort of add-one?

Nice car Chris and welcome to the forum. You said that there were a handful of add-one ready done to the car. What sort of add-one?

So far what I've found is:
- what I believe is a "venom brace" in front (red cross brace in engine bay)
- a King Penn windblocker (already removed - hated how it looked)
- an older-style (I think) DDM backbone plate (it's red, with DDMWorks lettering, and solid)
- I think another red cross-brace in the rear (need to get under there again and look to be sure)
- a not-so-good-looking floppy rubber antenna mast

There was also a stick-on yellow carbon-fiber-look trim package in the cabin, but that was the very first thing to go.

Aside from those things the car is otherwise stock and appears to be all original - shocks, brakes, etc.

Cheers!

Chris

Actually, after doing some research I think it might be a Kappasphere reBAR. Still not quite sure as I've only laid eyes on it once...

Nice car!  Unfortunately custom wheels are pretty much the only way to go for ASP, but 18x11" CCWs are worth it IMO :)

I'd go with some Koni Yellows ASAP, and then you can build a coilover setup using them later when you are ready.  That's what DrJones and SnaponBob did and is the route I'd take if I went up a class.  Other than that and the wheels, all you need is a HP Tuners setup and you'll be good to go.

Would love to connect and grab a beer sometime. I spend the weekends in Gig Harbor but work in SoDo, so maybe after the holidays we can find a time to get together and chat!

Cheers,

Chris

Konis are already on the way, and I'm putting together my parts list for custom coilovers :)
