Lightweight Flywheel
« on: November 12, 2013, 12:34:41 PM »
Well it seems that my time has come up for the most part for a new clutch. I just wanted to know if anyone on the forum has had or currently has one of these and what are your impressions? I know what is supposed to happen if you switch to a Lightweight flywheel, but I want to know if it makes it really impossible to drive? Does it rattle alot at idle? What are the differences in acceleration?

If anyone has a lightweight flywheel with a spec aftermarket clutch or just any kind of aftermarket clutch please let me know. I'm having to make the disicion here pretty soon and would just like to know a little bit of personal opinion.

Thanks guys!

do it!

I have the stage 3+ clutch from SPEC.

there's a lil rattle in a certain rpm (i forgot the rpm range)......  but not during idle.

but not as irritating as what other people say.

Not sure because they have another stage?    but if you have stage 3+, I highly recommend the LWF

good luck ryan

Thank you! You of all people were one of the ones I was hoping to hear from haha. I know the stage 3 plus is going to hold alot and be easier to drive, but because of the price of the clutch not including the lwf, labor, or throw out bearing, I think i'm looking at the stage 2+ or the stage 4. Within hopefully about 4 months I should be able to have a hybrid turbo or medium sized turbo (like a s256 or 259) on the car. Does the lightweight flywheel rattle at idle at all or is it just a a certain rpm? And around which rpm? I just would like to know what your experiences are with it.

Thanks buddy! and I still cant wait to see your car in action man! that thing is going to be a beast! :)

they sent me both the clutch and LWF.

why are you even considering stage 2+ or stage 4?

stage 3+ holds a lot of power, and is their premier line.  Thats why its a bit pricey  It actually feels stock.
It will handle tq way higher than 2+ and will be more streetable than stage 4.  So its a win win.   I will not use stage 4 or 5, unless my car is purely track car......since the materials used will not give you enough mileage on the streets......compared to a stage 3+

It doesnt rattle at all during idle.  NADA.

if i can still remember correctly, I believe the rattle is around 3900-4300 rpm?     something like that
but other than that rpm range....no rattle at all.     So just keep on boosting and be above that rpm! so no rattles :)

I'm going to have to ask him and see what he would like for it. As much as I'd love to take the transmission off of his hands as well and use it as a back up, I just need the clutch and flywheel for now so wonder if he would sell it separately.

Thank you for all of the feedback though! I really was skeptical about getting a lightweight flywheel because of idle rattling and also when i was part of the cobalt forums, I heard many complaints about a lightweight flywheel cause alot of missfires because of a difference in rotational weight and the speed at which it then accelerated.

I want to hear about the T56 transmission swap!!! I would ultimately want that, but that wouldnt come for me at least until the big turbo and probably even until the motor is built.

Yes, i have a spec3+ with lightweight flywheel.
Its got less than 2000 miles on it

Its currently at DDM.

I'll take $750 plus shipping.  We would have to ask Dave how much shipping will be, but he does have your address due to the brake parts

Ryan, thats a good deal already.....since its less than 2k miles.

basically, you already have at least 25% off, and somebody already did a clutch break-in (boring part) for you!

all you gotta do is, slap it on your car, and drive it like you stole it :)
