Trifecta tune
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:57:45 PM »
Does the Trifecta canned tune lower the boost of your stock tune when you have the Trifecta tune off? Reason I ask is because my stock tune used to go up to 17/18psi and now it only goes to 14/15psi and tapers off to 11/12psi.

I recently installed DDM charge pipes and thought that I might have a boost leak so I took it all apart again, installed T-clamps and got the same results.

The Trifecta tune still goes up to 23/24psi and seems to hold it fine but the stock tune is nowhere near what it used to be. Anyone else had similar results? Just curious.

My next mod will most likely be the Hahn intercooler and I would really like to get a few more psi out of the Trifecta or another tune. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jim

You know our PCM is load referenced, not boost. Let's say for example stock car, in "SAE" conditions does 265hp at 15psi. If you have lower temp and more oxygenated air coming into your engine, the boost is dropped.

I'm not a Trifecta user but if I remember correctly the Trifecta tune is not overwritten in stock tables, it uses empty space of PCM to store its own values and bypasses stock value, that's why you can have a "dual" tune.

My short answer: based on my knowledge, not expertise, the answer is no.

Thanks - that makes sense to me. The weather definitely took a turn from earlier in the week as the temps dropped from a high of 75 to a high of 28 and while the boost was actually lower, the car felt just as fast if not faster.

The technology on this car is so far advanced from all of the other turbo cars I have owned by far.

Thanks again!

I'd have to agree with Kelu.  There are a lot of factors that can make ambient air more dense which would increase performance and reduce the need for boost.

Yes sir - I am in total agreement. I have just been used to the older technology on my other turbo setups where 18psi was 18psi regardless of anything else but it all makes perfect sense. Just went for a spin in a balmy 35 degrees and the factory tune allowed 17psi. Roads are a bit wet so no need to get stupid on them....

Being a trifecta user, i can say the "stock" trifecta tune is a bit slower than the factory tune. For me that was never an issue, though.
