For the benefit of those that don't visit the BB, this was my response over there:

OK, sometime during the 2007 model year builds, GM changed the way the rear of the transmission was mounted. Prior to the change, the rear was mounted to a frame crossmember. The change tied the rear of the transmission housing to the front of the differential housing via the use of a beam between the two units.

#9 in the following diagram is the beam that was added, which required a change in the transmission tail shaft housing and the differential front mounting.  This was an attempt to quiet the clunk that was present in a lot of the 2006 and early 2007 Kappas.

And although it's stating the obvious to most here, the above stated beam was only on the cars with the manual transmissions and not the autos.
Just trying to do my part...

Mods: Lose the chicklets, VentureShield, Dual horns, AfterShock spoiler, Weathershield cover, Lil Chromies, Red calipers with black Solstice stickers, Opel GT antenna and Solo GXP-RCD exhaust with a Solo hi-flow cat!
