That's a great looking GXP...can't wait to see the improvements!

Out of curiosity, can you share the specs on the Forgestar wheels it's sitting on? Diameter, width and offset? They look like they fit perfectly.

Cheers,

Chris

Now that would be awesome.

Dave
Any hints on what parts you will be using?
Specifically the turbo choice

I think DAVE updated the thread on the BB with more info about parts that will be used.
The turbo will be big......but not identified yet.

Hmmm. Big turbo on small motor. I know EFRs are good, but its getting to sound a bit laggy....

Never saw the efr commitment, but if so, imo good as that's the way I'd go. I too wouldn't do more than a 6758. On SF I shouted out the 7163 if wanting the next step up. Bigger will be more laggy though, I agree GJ, especially if not efr or larger than the 7163.

Looking forward to the build.

i tried both gt3076r kit and gt3582r kits before.

GT3582r is definitely laggy for my taste esp on the streets.

EFR turbos spool way faster than garrett turbos.      But if you go with a EFR turbo that is bigger than a gt3582r.....you will feel the lag on the streets.

But we don't know what the intentions of the owner of this solstice.    If he just wants the highest turbo powered Solstice or will just drag race this car......then the lag will not really be an issue.

for some people.....lag is over-rated anyways :)

Maybe a 200 rpm advantage over a similar sized GT garret and I would not call that "way" faster.
HPT logs have been posted to back this up as have 60-100 times that only vary by .2-.3 of a second

Similar sized EFR and GTX model Garret turbos will be even closer if not almost identical.

GTX-R and GTR turbos will have identical spool characteristics.

their only difference is  GTX-r turbos have about 10% more power

Here is some great data logging and a comparison of Garrett turbos versus the EFR 7163. Spool seems to me to be more than "maybe 200 rpm" earlier. The newest technology imo is a definite step up.

You'll see below 500-750 rpm faster spool with the EFR. On the graphs that shows up at around 80 lb/ft more torque at 3000 rpm, for example.

http://blog.perrinperformance.com/borg-warner-efr-7163-test-and-tune/

Quote
For sure the EFR7163 is the winner here. Same or better power, and better response.

Quote
And the GTX3076R test with a .82AR housing. Much laggier and only a bit more power. Again, is 20WHP worth it?

Note this from similar EFR 7670 tests, which is notably more laggy than the 7163.
Quote
Since the dyno is very controlled, and a high loaded run, in all these tests the super light Titanium Aluminide turbine wheel doesn’t come into play at all. What this does show is the turbine wheel and compressor wheel design is a notch up over the Garrett GTX stuff. From what I have seen Borg Warner has designed a turbo that does what they say it should. It makes more power and spools faster than the GT3582R.

The dyno conclusions do not match what I “feel” on the road. On the road, I feel like [the 7670] is much more lively than the GT or GTX3076R. Its interesting as in some road tests the EFR7670 shows the same spool up RPM as the GTX3076 w.82ar, but it feels so much snappier between shifts light load low RPM shifts. Meaning the normal day to day 2000-4000RPM shifting is about 50% better than it was before. In some logs I notice that the GTX would show say 2-3psi of boost at these really low RPM’s, where the EFR is showing about 5psi. Its only a couple PSI but that makes huge difference in how it feels. You can see this on the dyno graphs where the EFR is making more TQ at 2000-2500.

To the OP, there is a good comparison to the 7163 to the 7670 in the link, which may help in choosing turbos.
