Not willing to take that chance since I read the story of a woman w/07 GXP who crashed and suffered a leg amputation couple years ago. She is now suing GM since the recall info came out. She lost power, crashed and had no airbags deployed.
Dealer told me mid-May, but now says still waiting. I do drive it a little, but have removed the key fob. If I get in an accident I will have complied with GMs warnings (not that I want that to happen) and not leave them a legal loophole.

These tales puzzle me. If your car stalls while driving you'll still have power steering and brakes (for a while) so why did she crash?  If she crashed by her own (or other's) mistake, how would the airbags have saved her leg?

Just seems to be a lot of bandwagon-jumping going on with the stories.

This particular case troubles me too.  However, a lot of people will sue, just on the off chance that the manufacturer will pay them some money just to go away, regardless of whether there is any potential liability or not.

There is also the latest information to come out of the hearings where GM is still advising customers as follows.
Once the change of the ignition parts are done you need to just have the key and or key and fob nothing else.
So although you have gone through all this trouble of having new parts the advise is still the same as if you had the old parts.
I have tested mine (2007 GXP) and it works fine and has been working for almost 8 years.
I just talked to someone that has a 2006 NA and in his case he can very easy turn it off.
Now although that is the case, he has never experience the car turning off because the ignition issue.
However once the test was done and the result was in the negative, the parts have been order and waiting on the new ones.

does anyone know what GM is going to do about the door lock? My letter says they will replace 2 keys, program for 2 keys, replace ign lock cylinder and switch. So what if you want to key unlock door? Also I read on here they are using generic keys. I've never had a problem with mine and tried turning it off and found it about the same as any other  car I've drove. I'm not doing the recall. I believe for the most part, just like the Toyota story a few years ago people ne to be more responsible and learn how to drive and operate a vehicle.

They re-key to match your current key pattern.  So the new keys will work in the old door locks.  Don't panic!!!

I told him that I have had problems with my ignition so they gave me a loaner, within eight days my car was fixed. The bottom line is they don't want to have to pay out for you to have a car while they put your car in the back lot and let it sit until they get around to it this was back in April.  Another one of our forum members hasn't had his car looked at yet because he told him that he wasn't having any problems.

RichSol, did you see the car that women was in that's suing GM for loss of her legs? The car hit the tree side ways and the air bags didn't deploy. There was no front end damage to the car. The air bags  aren't supposed to deploy! Why, as you are thrown against the door, would you want the air bag in your face?

It's awful what happened to that poor woman but it just sounds like a stupid lawyer jumping on the bandwagon to me. Here's a link to the article and video.

Just got the call from my dealer today that my parts are in to do the recall. I scheduled it for this Saturday. My whole interior is torn apart because of all the mods I'm trying to do. Guess I'll put it back together somewhat before I take it over there.

I got that call this morning too. He said your switch and key are in. I said, you mean switch, lock and 2 keys?

What's wrong with them? hahaha..anyway, I'll bring it in next week. I was told..we are small, so no loaner car. Um..I need a car!

Anyway, I'll be glad when this is over and done with..until the next one, right? :P

Its kind of worded vaguely but it does say something about substitute transportation.  A shuttle ride to and from work would be substitute but once they figured out that would be alot of trouble they gave a loaner.  After a week i told them i needed the car and never got it done and I'm not going to get it done since no issue exist with my vehicle.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.  It's a side impact and we don't have side airbags, would the airbags have even done anything to help her in this case?
And how did she end up in a tree?  As was stated, you can still steer the car and you still have some brakes.  Unless the key locks up, why not turn the car back on?

Anyway, I've been thinking about this, a situation where you could get into trouble would be in heavy traffic where there is a sudden stop.  Then the car may be sluggish and wouldn't have enough time to stop.

My understanding from what I heard and read was, that you lose power, airbags, and steering (I assume from power steering) but if you can't turn that would mean that the key disengages and the steering lock engages which would mean that you cannot steer at all. I mean if loss of power is all you should be able to steer the car, albeit it would be hard. Am I correct with this ASSumption? You all know when you assume.....

It's not a great situation. But all you need to do is turn the key back on. The problem is, before this became widespread, and for many they still don't know, it might not be obvious what went wrong. In the 3-5 seconds of surprise at a suddenly dead car a lot can happen.
Imagine it happens suddenly on the Dragon. Bye bye. Plenty if real world situations where it's no big deal. Straight road in Iowa somewhere, no one around, turn the car back on and go. But, a packed cloverleaf at 65 MPH?  Trouble.
To no one in particular-
Get your car fixed or don't. Your choice. If you don't get it fixed and then you crash in to me as a result of neglecting your responsibility to repair your car as directed, I'll sue you for everything you have and more.  If we are still alive.

Have a nice day.
Make the right choices now

Yes, that's the story I was referring to. She lost power and didn't know what to do, I suppose. This happened before the recall. Good point about the side impact. Nevertheless, I think she probably has a case. I'm not a torts lawyer, but am in the "stupid" club. We aren't all weasels.
