Ignition Fault Recall: all models of Solstice/Sky Included
« on: February 25, 2014, 06:27:54 PM »
Figured I would let everyone know.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/more-than-750000-chevrolet-cobalts-and-pontiac-g5s-recalled-after-six-deaths-related-to-ignition-fault/

Update: Less than two weeks ago, General Motors announced it would recall more than 750,000 2005–2007 Chevrolet Cobalts and 2007 Pontiac G5 compacts. Today, GM announced that it is expanding the scope of the recall to include 2003–2007 Saturn Ions, 2006–2007 Chevrolet HHRs, and 2006–2007 Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky models. That brings the total of U.S. vehicles affected by the recall to more than 1.36 million vehicles.

Hope this helps.

My '8 will get that part replaced anyway since I have a close friend who works as a GM mechanic. I'm going to try to get it covered under GMPP.

Ya my car was built in February 2008 so I am not sure if my car has an 07 module in it or not.   :(  I may do the same as you

Our early build 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP is pictured right on the cover of Wednesday's USA TODAY along with 2003-07 Saturn ION, 2006-07 Chevrolet HHR, and 2007 Saturn Sky.  The headline is "Deaths double: GM widens recall"...so sad about the deaths so far of those who have died in this recall.  Such a sad day indeed!  Our hearts go out to those who did not make it!

I just looked up my 06 (if I guessed the VIN right based on another 06 VIN) and it didn't come up.  But pretty sure it probably should be on the list!

I JUST CHECK WITH MY COWORKER (GM ADVISOR).

They HAVE NOT added vins yet. ALL of our cars in those years will be recalled. There is no parts in dealers yet.

We have been advised to take off ALL OTHER KEYS until the new part comes out.

I, like to live dangerously, so I will not. Mainly cause I don't want to lose my keys.

I will keep you guys posted on what I can...

I have been preaching that for 50+ years.  My key ring has always been limited to the car keys and a house key.  I have 4 sets of keys one for each vehicle.

My solstice keys have only the car key, fob, and one has the small plastic dealership key ring, while the other has a small keychain.  That is it.  No other keys.  No extras.

My G6 has my car key, fob, work key, house key, key to Dad's house, small Iowa Hawkeye key chain and the little plastic barcode thingy for my gym.  That's my worst one.  I used to have tons of stuff on my key chain when my camaro was my daily driver, but I've gotten less and less over the years.  In fact, I sometimes carry a separate key ring from the car keys since I change cars enough in the summer.  I put all the house and work keys on that ring and the cars have nothing else on them so I'm not running around with both sets of car keys all the time.

I always cringe at people who put a lot of keys and trinkets together resulting a heavy load on the ignition key while driving. In the past, I have seen cases where the key just came out of the tumbler but didn't shut off ignition. Imagine the load on an ignition key where vibration always exists and then add load that's 10x (maybe even more) the weight of the key itself.

I separate my other keys (house, garage) from car keys. The key for one car has only the remote fob for that car attached to it; no medallion, no pendant, no photo holder, no flash drive, no keycard, no ID card, no lanyard, no nothing else. House & garage keys are on a separate chain.

This is safer in a way that if you lost a key chain, it would be limited to the key for that one car or the key to the house or someone else's house. Granted that a key doesn't exactly have a house address printed on it, but it's still a remote possibility that it can be used inappropriately.

I would call Customer care to verify.  My Vin was not on the site but when I called customer care they said my vin was included in the recall.

They probably won't update VINs or send out notices until parts are received.

I am not overly concerned as my car isn't going anywhere until:

1.  All the snow is gone
2.  All the salt is washed off the roads
3.  It warms up at least 40+ degrees
