I saved the picture. Thank you. This should prove to be very interesting. When I get it done, I'll let you know what they did and if they changed the keys.

I'm on edge enough leaving my car there and yes, I did request a loaner. I have no way of getting home and the dealership is far from me.

Thanks for the link. The beginning of the article says......

OSHAWA – General Motors has shipped thousands of kits consisting of ignition switches, ignition cylinders and key sets for older model small cars subject to a safety recall.

I see KEYS here...what is going on? Does the dealership not know? grrrrr

My understanding is that your old keys will not fit into the new ignition cylinder as the warding is a bit narrower than the old keys, this is to ensure that you cannot use the old keys, which have a slot for the key ring. The new keys have a small hole for the key ring. The ignition tumblers will be matched to the tumblers in the doors and the glove box.  Therefore, the new keys will work in the ignition, doors and glove box, while to old keys will only work in the doors and glove box.

If this doesn't match with what your dealer described, your dealer may be a bit misinformed as to the required repairs, as they probably haven't received the repair description which accompanies the new parts.

Thanks for the info. I did hear somewhere about the hole being smaller in new keys but this dealer threw me off with what he said and he was the manager, hahaha.

The original recall was just to change the ignition switch. The subsequent recall was to change the ignition cylinder and the keys on the car. If the dealer says they aren't replacing the key, they're just a little outdated in their knowledge.

I just called Crews Chevrolet here in Charleston about getting the recall done. They said they are ordering parts only when customers call in and must order the parts against the VINs. Parts should be here in 3-4 weeks.

So they are tracking the VIN's on this one.  Interesting...

The corporate lawyers have gotten way involved in this one, one of the reasons (perhaps the only reason) for the new ignition cylinder and keys (so that the old "slotted" keys cannot be used in the ignition).

Great! I think I'll talk to the dealer near me again to save me driving 80 miles to another one. I snipped your key picture to show him.

I hope they don't open the hood or test drive my car after they replace it.
Hell
I might not have them do it since I don't have anything on my keys.

Elff.
Please note that your 2008 and others have the good switch and tumbler unless you had the original replaced.
The reason for the entire Kappa years is because GM release some 90K bad switches to aftermarket and dealer stock.
However the 2008 to 2010 Kappa's build at the factory and purchased new by the present owner DO NOT HAVE THIS DEFECT.
Mine is a 2007 and I WILL NOT HAVE IT DONE, mine works perfect, so I am keeping my car with the Pontiac original keys, switch and tumbler.

NOT having mine done either. I like the light turning action and only carry a house key on the key ring.
