It was not just GM TOYOTA also made a big recall also.
Actually if GM improves the quality of their vehicles through this measures that is now taking, you the customer would actually have a much better experience with your new GM vehicle.

I concur LatinVenom!  Miss Red Eagle had hers done yesterday at Superior Chevrolet.  Driving her home I actually heard her whisper in my ear that she is glad that it was done!  She does indeed have a free spirit and is again flying unrestricted!  :brnout: :woohoo: :us2:

Called about it, no appointment until parts arrive.  So not yet!

The work took longer  :pop: than I anticipated that it would!  After seeing the Eagle enter the shop for the recall, it took a bit over two hours to complete the job so when you take yours in be prepared like a boy scout and have some snacks ready to eat for energy.  The drive home was sweet indeed!

I had it done about two weeks ago, along with a lube, oil, filter change.  Total time was about 1.75 hours, but I had a loaner for the day, so it wasn't a time waster.  Every thing works just like it should.

I thought I was going to have mine done last Saturday, but when I go to the dealer they said they were sorry but the parts they had were not for my Sky, so I'm still on the list. Did get my service done so I ready for the drive to nationals next Tuesday and Wednesday, see you all there. :yay: :yay: :yay:

DaveOC,

I need to know what the lock cylinder part number is.  My Dad's car had that replaced on his own dime. I want to compare the parts.  Can you post the work order?

Thanks

I'm having doubts. My ignition cylinder/tumbler operates just fine, so there is no reason for me; plus I don't want the non-descript keys.

I'd like to help you out, but that is the one part that is not listed by part number on my work order/billing.

There is a place on the work order for the part number but there is nothing entered there.

Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
SUMMARY:
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles. On February 25, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 748,024 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice vehicles and 2003-2007 Saturn Ion vehicles and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
REMEDY:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GM’s recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

The part number for the ignition switch on my work order was 23240429 which isn't on the above list. The last 5 part number above are all ignition housing kits.  No keys are listed.

The joke here is that I got two recall letters total. I went to the dealer and he took my information down etc and said he didn't have the parts yet and he would call me when they came in. They still don't have the parts and the other day, I received another notice from GM telling me that I haven't brought my car in yet for this recall. Well, duh!

Same here.  I scheduled the service in April.  Still waiting for the parts.  Called this week and was told I am in the system and they will call me when the parts get in, but as of yet no parts.  But GM keeps sending me letters saying "GET THIS DONE!"

I'm not looking forward to the "generalized" keys either.  You'd think they could stop sending redundant mailings to people that have already signed up or had the work done, and use the saved money in postage to spring for Pontiac keys for us.  Although in future I guess that will be an easy way to tell if someone had the recall done or not, by whether or not they still have a Poncho key.

What kills me is that the dealer said I could leave my car there. Well? That's almost two months ago if not more and no way in hell am I going to leave my car there, gathering dust and filth and that. I think I'll visit them next week, face to face and see what gives. This is ridiculous really.
