Has anyone done a widebody?
« on: May 07, 2014, 03:45:55 PM »
My Sky could use a paint job so I was thinking about maybe doing wider wheel arches on the rear and possibly the front. Id like to see some pictures if anyone has any pics of a wb kappa.

An issue I was thinking about is the bumper lines up to the wheel arches. What would be the best option? Fiberglass? Body filler shaped to line up?

Norm's been working on a wide body kit for the Solstice, give him a shout.

I'm thinking one of the SEMA cars had a custom wide body kit and didn't Spiky do something to that Solstice to give it a wider look when he had it?  There should be pics around here somewhere of it.

He sold it to Diamoney.  It's still around as far as I know.

I know Spiky had his rear fenders pulled out. Looks as though the pictures are gone however as they were hosted on Photobucket and have been moved or deleted.

You could perhaps contact Steve and see if he still has the pictures if Diamoney isn't able to help.

Hello, here's one where Spikey had our fenders and side skirts molded in along with our rear race bumper with diffuser. Thanks Norm

Its just so hard to tell in that pic.

I hope you guys come out with a kit norm so I can save some money on having a local shop do a custom job.

Remember seeing a widebody SKY in Europe but can't find it.

Fav is still the Pitbull concept, but opinion has changed a little on it because sometimes when I look at it looks cartooney.

Forum member Hattrick on solsticeforum had custom fender flares done (at $3650 out the door to incl sheetmetal work, and paint).  Running 285/30-19’s on 10.5” wheels.  Offset unknown.  Had 305’s on them at first.  Running 265’s on 9.5” up front.

Hello those last pics look very good, also I like the fenders too. Im sure it was difficult to blend into the rear bumper, as we had to section the rear 1/4 to do that ourselves. Sadly I don't think we will offer a wide body ourselves even though I'm close to the finished buck, there just isn't the money to justify molds and all. Thanks Norm

How much would this cost you to do norm before paint?

When youre done woule you mind posting the build process and installation if you have pictures? If youre not going to sell them it could be potentially very good information for the community. The more wb kappas the better imo.

I want to get your rear diffuser bumper with dual outlets before I undergo somethjng like this. That and a drop makes the car appear desceptively wide anyways.

Yes, that is the one at Norms I'd love to see the progress on.

Hell yea!

Is it possible to get rid the Envoy/GrandAm reverse light coves? Those are a bit unwise.

The black and white car of course wasn't Norm's but was done by a fella from Montreal.

Any more pics or links?  Notice the eyelids appear to be molded into the hood, very cool.  But prefer widebody panels over flares.  Still think a widebody Kappa would be a legitimate alternative to Cobra replicas.
