Part number for NA z0k power steering cooler
« on: July 24, 2014, 10:55:13 PM »
Is the correct part number for the finned unit 25965056 or 25965055?
Do the GXP and base model power steering coolers interchange?

Mine boils over racing, need to reduce the temps and would rather just try something that will fit out of the box before trying to figure out bracketry for an aftermarket power steering cooler.

Still on stock PS fluid?  Some synthetic fluids like Redline help keep it from boiling longer than the stock stuff.

Running Redline already, and actually running lower than stock levels, which helped in normal usage, but a weekend of having back-to-back and very little downtime between runs proved to be too much heat.
Normally, with 5-10 mins between runs, the system is fine.

There are 2 different coolers that we have seen here. The early cars usually have just a tube loop in front of the A/C condenser. Later on the cars came with cooling fins on the tube loop in front of the A/C condenser. The parts are interchangeable from everything we have ever seen, but we have never tried swapping them. Also, if you can relocate your P/S reservoir you will pickup some more fluid capacity and get the reservoir away from the exhaust.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Thanks, my reservoir is actually on the other side of the engine, I've got a CTS-V pump and reservoir, and my line is looped on the drivers side instead!

I wound up ordering the 25965055 part. I'll be seeing what I get when it arrives.

Has anyone tried deleting the power. The steering is much better when it isn't assisted.

I have considered it, but there's no manual rack that interchanges with the car.
I drive a lot in cars with manual steering, and I've tried power steering cars with the assist disabled. I'm not interested in removing the assist without a proper manual rack.

25965055 did get me the finned part from a GXP and, except for the fins, it is 100% identical to the original unit.
