Painting hood insulator
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:19:50 PM »
I was doing some under hood cleaning and detailing last night and got to thinking about how the insulator always looks dirty so I looked up replacing it .My other thought was to get some heat shield and use the old one as a template the trouble with that is I would have to piece it together as it does not come wide enough to do all in one piece and I'm not to hot on that look. Just wondering if anyone has painted their hood insulator and how it came out ? I'm not looking to do some airbrush eagle or flames just a simple sold color paint probably Satin Black just  to clean up the way it looks .Or has anyone cleaned theirs I tried a spot and all it did was leave the surface funky.

Had mine air brushed.  I sprayed it with a few coats of clear first and after it dried, removed all the hairs.  The clear acted like a sealer so the airbrushing wouldn't soak in and loose detail.  Then I clear coated a few times after to seal in the paint in case it got road grime, water, etc....

In case you hadn't thought of it, notice my plastic plugs that hold it on the hood are airbrushed also

I did gloss black. The shiny coat keeps the dirt away and still highlight the Saturn logo.

I saw that and was a bit disappointed.  You could always do it again for us in a white T  :)

I could. How much money you got to donate to my ALS not-for-profit?

In case anyone is nominated for the ice bucket challenge and would like to donate:
