blew up my diff this weekend
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:35:42 PM »
I had a little too much fun this weekend and blew up my diff.   :slap:

I need help finding a part number.  I've been looking around online for a few hours.  Looks like there is basically two types of diffs for the solstice.  The earlier model which sts/cts difs sort of fit.  And the later models which has two different types of mount brackets.  I also busted my mounting bracket from the diff to the drive line support, and that's the part number I cant find.

Here is a picture of what I'm looking for.... it's hard to see it, the bracket is on the other side of the diff.

9 (drive line support - 15911885) to 6 (diff).  bolts 12 go through the bracket:

This is all I can find.  Part 12 (15922410), looks really close but it doesn't have the two bolt holes for the driveline bolts.

That's a bad day, man.  Sucks.  How did it happen?  i.e. Drifting?  Track day?  Autocross? Drag strip?

Wow.  You did blow it up.  You must know what you are doing to take it off though but good luck anyway.  Enjoyed the schematic of the diff you included.

Thanks Dave, that's it!

From the information I can find, I dont believe the caddy diff would work.  because it doesnt have the holes for the mounting the driveline mount.  The internals will work, but unfortunately I need the whole thing, including the driveline mount.

When I took it out I did find one of the four small bolts used to bolt the driveline mount to the diff missing... I think that was the cause of the failure.  well and me beating on it didnt help.

I was on a secluded road playing around with a friend that recently bought one of those new BMW 4 series.

Damn! I'll bet THAT was embarrassing!

The Cadillac diff will not work with a manual, since it does not have the mounts for the torque arm. You could get the mount to hook it up like a automatic, but then you would need to come up with a mount for the transmission and that turns into more trouble than its worth and you lose the torque arm. You can also run a 2.4L diff with the 3.91 if you want also, just have to find a later 2.4L that had the torque arm.

BTW - what kind of tires are you running?

Thanks for the info.  Yeah I'm thinking about going with a 3.91 and putting a quaife lsd in it.  I found 3.91 diff supposedly it has the torque arm mounts.

Tires are NT01
