NEW - ZLR Doors for the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Opel GT
« on: September 09, 2014, 05:18:06 PM »
We have been working with VDI for several years now and have installed almost 60 sets of the vertical doors on Solstice and Sky's over the years. We have had requests for the ZLR style doors in the past and just received this new video from VDI -

ZLR Door Conversion Kit for Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice - YouTube

Here are also some pictures that they sent while in development -

We are talking with them now to find out pricing and availability on these. Once we get that, we will be offering an initial group buy on the new ZLR doors and also a discount on the first set that we install at DDMWorks. Once we get some more information, I will pass it along.

Two questions (not trying to poke holes in this or "trash" them):

1)  Does this kit rectify the problem of interference between the open doors and the hood edge that was present on the original VDI kit?
2) How awkward is it getting in/out with the windows UP?  The video shows a woman getting in/out with the window down, but it looks like she'd have to perform more acrobatics if the window were up.

When the door is open
What is the width of the widest part
And
How does that compare to the vertical kit?

Im curious abOut clearance issues in my garage

I have no idea yet, I am going to talk with them and probably see these in about a week in person and try to get some measurements.

Looks like a face basher to me. Good in theory but I'm afraid bad in execution. Her head clearly goes thru the plane of where the window would be.

More than the question of getting in and out... can you even open and close at ALL with the windows fully up (at least with the top up).  Looks like there might not be enough clearance without rubbing the top and/or seals??

I do like that the open/close is one motion though.

Interesting concept. Daves picture shows them up at least partially. The motion looks nice and smooth to open and close but with the window up I'm envisioning line marks on your head as you hit it going in and out. For Elff it may look like a moonroof.

I like my VDI doors. I just wished they could open a bit more for passengers that dont know its a partial open. Its funny to see their reaction though as they try to open and it slams back shut on them. I still wince on what it will do.

I have no idea yet, I am going to talk with them.

Hey Dave, when you talk to them would you ask about the possibility of suicide doors.  Not sure if they would be structurally possible, but would still like to know.  Thanks.
