DDM brace bundle day
« on: September 20, 2014, 10:32:30 AM »
I had ordered a DDM performance Backbone from the good folks at DDM and while I was waiting for the back order I found a member who had an entire new in box brace bundle for sale locally on Craigslist.  The price was 1/2 of new and couldn't pass it up. Called Dave and Ivy to see if it was ok to cancel that part of my order and as always they were awesome. No problem...enjoy the bundle...can't pass up that deal.    thanks DDM.

Caught the red eye back from California and will be heading out to the garage in a little bit.  I will be starting with the Backbone first then the Probeam.  Probably won't drive the car with only the backbone since getting her hot would delay the probeam install but I will post the results.

Well.......the Backbone took just a hair over 1/2 hour to install. Easy peasy! Now onto the Probeam after a little break.

Done with installing all 3. Total time including going out for lunch and also a trip to the hardware store for a drill bit. Figures...the one size bit I didn't have. Total actual install time a little over 2 hours including searching for tools and figuring out you definitely do NOT want the Probeam bolts with the nuts on top of the crossbeam! If you run the bolts from the bottom up you end up with two nice spears pointed at the fuel tank in the event of a crash. Hell no! People please pay attention to this!

Going to go shower up and take her for a run. Will post some impressions later.

First impressions....the car is definitely more stable feeling. The wandering on uneven road is gone. As others have said it feels like a heavier car on the road but still clearly nimble like a lighter car.

Some have said that they thought the car was harder to break the tires loose after the brace mods. I don't sense that. At least on my relatively short drive thru some S's and from several lights she breaks loose pretty easy in competition mode. Maybe the mods are showing the weakness of my 20k mile tires. In the S curves she hung the rear out. I could have been charging in to the corner hotter as well.

I like the feel. I am sure with some more seat and throttle time I can give a better evaluation. For the price and ease of installation it is a no brainer.

Thanks Sly. Yes, everyone should make sure where those bolts are facing.

Jealous bro, excellent work. Waiting on mine to arrive sometime soon.  Thanks for the heads up on the bolts. Good to know before I start this.  Hope I can get the brace kit and Z0K stuff installed on one weekend.
