If I'm not mistaken, the 6-speed manual from a Toyota X-Runner is an evolution of the 5-speed in Kappa.  It's supposed to bolt up but will need driveshaft length altered.  That's the easy part, the hard part is gear ratio combination; if I remembered correctly, the ratios are Toyota-cursed being 1st rather low and a wide jump to 2nd.

The bolt pattern has changed going to the 3160 vs. the AR-5, also the newer engines moved the turbo to what we call the drivers side of the engine and the starter is now on what would have been the passenger side of the engine before. The bellhousing can not be swapped between the 2 transmissions either since the bellhousing on the 3160 holds the front of the shafts that the gears are on. Lining up the shifter with a 3160/6060 is actually the easy part since the linkage can be changed pretty easily and made to whatever length is needed, this is what we do with our V8 swaps. The other option that we have parts being made for now is actually a stronger AR-5, we have found what the issue is on the inside and technically have a solution for it, more on that later.

Cool, thanks for the info

Looking forward to seeing what you guys have in store for the AR-5, my 2nd gear is pretty crunchy...

Anyone thinking about replacing a AR5 with a T-56 is nuts.
I only did it because the AR5 wasn't up to the torque my engine puts out. It's a smoother, shorter, shifting transmission. GM didn't pick great ratios for the Solstice, obviously, but I'd lose the extra gear the T-56 brings in a heartbeat if the AR5's torque carrying capacity wasn't a liability in my application.

What exactly are you putting down as far as torque to the rear wheels? I'm putting down 451 ftlbs and not hanving an issue with my trans. Only wish that yes the gears were longer, and that the shifter wouldnt bobble so much at certain speeds. other than that its pretty sweet!

This being said do you have the t56 in your car I'm assuming? And if so, is it hooked up to the lnf 4cyl turbo engine? I ask because I wanted to know an opinion on someone that has done the swap. I really do want to do that swap at some point just for the longer gears alone!

Over 400. I have extra cylinders. The stock transmission is only rated to 280ft-lbs, you'll eventually have problems in severe use if you make 450.

Here are some of the off-the shelf gearsets available.

Solstice has the longest 5th made for the trans.

Ah I see didn't know you were on a v8. But the ar5 is rated for the torque you mentioned at like 4500-5000 lbs. Since we only way 3000, it's a underrated figure. I've been running this power for a little while now and trans is great! Just shift smoothly and your golden
