Caliper color
« on: October 27, 2014, 01:36:07 PM »
So I bought red G2 paint for the wife's Sky Redline as it matches the interior and such. I want to do mine as well, but I am torn on the color. My GXP is black with chrome/polished accents (mirror caps, lil' chromies, charge pipes, etc). It looks like the previous owner did the calipers and rotors in silver. It doesn't look that bad, but doesn't stand out either.

I know red is kinda traditional, but maybe black calipers and keep the rotors silver?  I am keeping the stock polished aluminum rims, so...

What say the Kappa hive mind?  Suggestions?  Pics would be great if you have'm.  :drive:

I have painted calipers in black and red. I'm now using anodized blue. I LOVE the blue! IMO, the black and red look ok. Black just kind of hides the caliper with the tire and especially if you have black rims. The red from duplicolor wasn't a bright enough shade for me and as you stated it's kind of traditional these days.

I was thinking black with silver decals?  Now that you mention black disappearing in the background, maybe not...   :idk:

If you want to use black you could try to "clearcoat" them with a layer or two of Duplicolor Clear Effex. It gives it a pearlescent sheen to any color. I use it quite a bit and like the sparkle it gives to paint.

I'm kind of partial to 'Mechanics Gray' which looks like a brand new casting and never shows rust, but I guess I'm just not a flashy guy!   ;)

Standing on top of the flight deck of the USS America, I saw a cruiser in heavy seas. Felt like I wasn't moving. As I looked at the cruiser, all I could think of was "glad I'm not there".  :yay:  Especially when I saw white water coming off the bridge...  :D

I was on an oiler, a fast combat stores ship - neither moved,  a fleet tug and a minesweeper.   The last two were corks :)

Roxer, how about yellow for the caliper color?  That should be a good contrast for the black.

I actually did consider that at one point (because it would look killer), but that is not in keeping with the black/chrome thingy.  I may just redo them in silver and do black GXP decals.  They are painted silver now and look decent.  The last owner didn't do a great job.  My guess is it was someone who used to occasion this board as there are other goodies on the car (like chrome mirror caps).

From the factory they were silver, I never did anything to them other than keep them clean and have had several people ask if I painted them silver.

I can tell they were painted because of the paint slash on the pads.  The rotor hats were done as well.  Not sure I want them chromed since this is a daily driver.  Painting them will be enough.  I am thinking black, red or silver.  G2 makes a black and silver metallic paint meant for a benz:

So I did them in red with GXP decals (because I did the Sky in red).  Now I am thinking Silver with black GXP decals.  Opinions:

Bright colored stock calipers = rice. Paint them black or silver
