Get some pictures of the valves and post them when you can.  I'd like to see if maybe they are discolored which can be a good indicator of overheating.

There is a lot of oil on them so it's hard to say.  Sometimes you will see a blue or green tint on the valves possibly even a line that runs around the valve.  The discoloration comes from the material the valve is made from actually burning off which would be a pretty good indication of a lean mixture issue.  The color changes depending on the metal alloy the valve is made from.

If you find discoloration don't reuse the valves.

Maybe is the picture but cylinder one seems to not have as much carbon deposits as the rest of the other ones.

I'm aware of that, until now if the guys from the shop would have spot any discoloration (valves, head, pistons) they would inform me by now, but except some carbon deposits on the pistons they didn't said anything, actually they reported that there were no signs of lean mixture (checked also spark plugs), also everything on the head will be re-inspected when installing the valve spings

Maybe is the picture but cylinder one seems to not have as much carbon deposits as the rest of the other ones.
I think what we see in the last picture with the valves and head are much more affected by the oil blow by from the moment of the failure on the track, I had to drive it up to the pits and outside of the track area and up on the trailer.

No rating on stock valves except GM engine build book recommended up grading on similiar engine when increasing hp
Does anybody have the book at hand? I tried to search for mine and I couldn't find it in my house  :idk:
I'm trying to find the information about valves especially when upgrading the engine, I think I remember information about springs.

There are 2 books, one about compact cars which refer mostly to old L61 engine and has some reference about LNF and the  other book about Kappa only (track & drag racing builds).

Later edit: This the one which I'm referring to:

Today I visited the shop again and I discovered a surprise, the other pistons have no damage, except the one posted some weeks ago above, which was the #1 piston, here are the pictures with the other pistons (click on the images to see the big picture with detailed view):
Piston X

Piston Y

Piston Z:

So maybe it was just a piston failure and nothing more.
It happens which is why there are stronger ones

How is the fuel rail designed?  Does the fuel supply come in at one end and then pass by each injector?  Or does it come in at the middle split like a tee and feed the front and rear injectors?

As far as I know, the high pressure fuel pump is next to the timing, driven by a cam drive and the fuel is pushed from one side of the rail towards inline injectors with number 1 piston being the farthest from the pump.
I think this is the reason of the common piston ring failures on #1 piston on the LNF.

If that's how the rail is designed I would suspect you are right.  Cyl 1 gets what's left and it isn't enough to keep it from running too lean/hot.

Once the Fuel Rail is pressurized, I would think that should not be an issue unless the car has exceeded the ability of the fuel delivery system.
I'd be surprised if a 3071 would be able to put the car into a level where this [With proper tuning] would ever be a case on cars that run only 10% or less ethanol.

Elff: I already hit fuel limit when doing 420hp around 4500-5000 rpm with pump gas and it was backed down a little, 3071 can outflow our fuel system ;)

Those misfires you got just before this occurred were probably fuel starvation ones then.
Keep this in mind when you tuning the new engine

He won't need to tune the V8 quite as aggressively.

I missed my chance to send him one of these when I shipped the other car parts to him.  He could'a had a V8!

Today I visited the shop again because all parts arrived finally, pistons took more than 6 weeks to arrive.

Also because they had the pistons they honed the block to 86.5mm and the machinist was impressed by the thickness of the stock sleeves, this being the best machine shop in the country.
Some pictures with the block ready:

The head was checked at the same machine shop and they said that the valve seals needs to be replaced  :idk: they are looking for them.

Monday the assembly will begin.

Great time to change that water pump with the one you won from the meet, if you haven't yet.
