Dammit!!  I hate when that happens!  Ah, but it seems like you have a wonderful wife!  Happy Honeymoon!

I would think the having a wife thing might be an issue.

I assume Joey meant pre-wife.  I met him right about the same time he started dating his wife.

Well this thread went sideways. Since we are going there, just ask DBG to add a board to the TDE section.

Back on topic, what do you think this way (engine) will cost you?

She's an 09 Brazen GXP.

Covered by Norms Fiberglass, DDM, WERKS, KappaSphere, Trifecta performance, Dejon performance, Solo performance, Magnaflow, Hahn, VDI, B&G, ASAP, WindRestrictor, Gravana, JPM, Santana, Madmod, HID pro, Second Skin Audio, mydipkit, Automotivetouchup.com and Smoothline.

To be or not to be hard, that is the question. I prefer my top off and still hard when I need it.

I say a 5.3L with harness, ecu, and all other accessories should cost around $1500 from all the places I've been searching.

LE 5 306-331 lbs / 5.3 450 lbs. /LS1 430 lbs . /5.3 w Magna Charger supercharger & 4L60 E Trans 779.4 lbs .

The stage 3 SC kit (approx 100lbs) plus the weight of the LE5 put it right around the same weight as an aluminum 5.3 or LS1.

Ok, the wife gave me the green light to start this project at the end of the month (probably start buying pieces/ parts next week). The STS-V engine wasn't complete enough and DDM Dave didn't think there would be enough space for it to fit. Going to buy an L33 engine as originally planned. I was shopping around for an iron block (LM7) to save some money in the budget, but couldn't find a nice "complete drop-out." No, local L33 engines available close to me so I've got one in my Ebay queue that looks to be the best shape/ price. I'm not crazy about the 200k+ miles that are on it already, but oh well.

I would not want to put an engine with that many miles into any car, unless I was the person who put all 200k miles on it.

What are you going to do to verify it works?

There's a video of it running posted on YouTube a month ago. I'm going to partially take it apart anyway. Going to change the cams, heads, and intake. Need to change the oil pan and maybe the front accessory drive and maybe a few other things as well. So,  while I'm at it I'll clean and inspect what I can. It'll basically be a partially rebuilt engine. Not sure what it costs to strip an engine down completely and give it a hot bath to do a complete rebuild, but if it's not too expensive then I'll get it done.

If you're going to do all that just rebuild it.  You are not going to save anything if you get it all put together and then find out it needs new rings or valves or whatever.

Ideally, that's what I'd like to do. However, this is my first ever engine swap and engine rebuild. I do feel a bit in over my head. I have the mechanical ability; just no experience in this particular venture. However, I do have a lot of friends that are knowledgeable and are willing to help me and loan me tools/ equipment. As, Lando would say, "Here goes nothing."

One thing for sure - youtube has become an invaluable source for this sort of stuff. I did a remove/replace of all top level gaskets on my Isuzu and had step-by-step instructions from 6 youtube vids. There are enough cobalt 2.0L rebuilds to help you out. GXP1 did a series of videos on his GXP rebuild on BB. Then there is DDM Dave and PAW Dave. Best of luck, but then you are Navy bro. You can kick this.

I'm still looking at other engines. The cost of rebuilding the L33 may take me to the same cost as a low mileage LS engine. I'm looking at a rebuilt iron block LS3 engine right now. I wonder what it weighs? NM, looks like it only weighs approx 70 lbs heavier than the aluminum block.

Well, I hammered out a deal for the iron block LS3. Iron block was an LQ9. Here's the ad I jumped on this morning:

"Iron block ls3! Life started out as a 6.0 block bored and balanced at city motor supply with documentation. Assembled with the stock ls3 bottom end with new bearings and rings. To finish off the bottom end motor was buttoned up with a moroso oil pan for clearance in just about in vehicle with remote oil filter fittings lines and mount, -10AN. Cylinder heads are stock gm 821 heads milled by kim barr racing to a mirror finish. Camshaft is lg motorsports g6x3 cam! Timing was upgraded with a double roller timing chain from comp cams, and a ported texas speed ls6 oil pump. The heads are kept on with arp head bolts. Comp cams double springs, titanium retainers, locks, and seals are installed on the heads to keep the valve train in check. BTR hardened pushrods connect to trunion upgraded stock ls3 rockers. Now for the intake. The intake is stock ls3 upgraded with holley ls fuel rails with ls9 injectors installed. To finish off and close up the motor is a fast 90mm throttle body. As for accessories a starter is installed and a slp 25% underdrive pulley. Think that about covers it. I had this motor built and assembled for a project that is now going another route, LS7! I used quality components ones any car enthusiast would appreciate. I also have a modified harness that is about 80% complete, needs to be lengthened, but is routed and run tight and give a flush finish."

This cost twice as much as I wanted to spend, but as I discovered earlier the cost of rebuilding an L33 plus intake, cams, heads, etc. could have easily cost an additional $2k+. Definite plus side is I get a "brand new" engine that I really don't have to do anything to and can leave as a NA for the power that I want.

I do have to find a water pump. It did have a Meziere WP319S on it, but the guy gave me a discount if I would buy the engine without it. I kind of regret letting it go because that waterpump is NIIIIIIICE and $$$$$$$ and my discount was only half of what it's going to cost me to buy another one just like it. However, as a whole, I got a REALLY good deal on this engine.

So what ECM goes in with this? Can you use yours or do you have to snag something from another platform?
