Naa
Really depends on the wife, but a lot of us have totally lucked out and completely married out of our class.

Ding, ding, ding!!! My wife is awesome! She knows I'm a dork that loves Sci-Fi, but I'm also a handy man's man that isn't afraid to get down and dirty to build or fix shit.

So what ECM goes in with this? Can you use yours or do you have to snag something from another platform?

The original LQ9 ECM is included.

Agreed with the wife thing. She recognizes this is my hobby and has accepted it. She even thinks it's cool?  Whoda thunk?

So will you try to keep the A/C and cruise?  I think I read those are the two issues with the swap. Is that correct?

If you break 500HP AC and cruise are irrelevant.

A/C is a must! Cruise control...not so much. If I can get it to work, great! If not, oh well.

This is an easy thing to resolve
You already have the original LQ9 ECM,  Just get the BCM, wiring harness, radio, and dash dash cluster from a vehicle that has them and transplant them all into the Sky
Then you can brag  that you have Cruise control

Well, I hammered out a deal for the iron block LS3. Iron block was an LQ9. Here's the ad I jumped on this morning:

"Iron block ls3! Life started out as a 6.0 block bored and balanced at city motor supply with documentation. Assembled with the stock ls3 bottom end with new bearings and rings. To finish off the bottom end motor was buttoned up with a moroso oil pan for clearance in just about in vehicle with remote oil filter fittings lines and mount, -10AN. Cylinder heads are stock gm 821 heads milled by kim barr racing to a mirror finish. Camshaft is lg motorsports g6x3 cam! Timing was upgraded with a double roller timing chain from comp cams, and a ported texas speed ls6 oil pump. The heads are kept on with arp head bolts. Comp cams double springs, titanium retainers, locks, and seals are installed on the heads to keep the valve train in check. BTR hardened pushrods connect to trunion upgraded stock ls3 rockers. Now for the intake. The intake is stock ls3 upgraded with holley ls fuel rails with ls9 injectors installed. To finish off and close up the motor is a fast 90mm throttle body. As for accessories a starter is installed and a slp 25% underdrive pulley. Think that about covers it. I had this motor built and assembled for a project that is now going another route, LS7! I used quality components ones any car enthusiast would appreciate. I also have a modified harness that is about 80% complete, needs to be lengthened, but is routed and run tight and give a flush finish."

This cost twice as much as I wanted to spend, but as I discovered earlier the cost of rebuilding an L33 plus intake, cams, heads, etc. could have easily cost an additional $2k+. Definite plus side is I get a "brand new" engine that I really don't have to do anything to and can leave as a NA for the power that I want.

Why would someone spend so much money and time then sell the engine?

I'm getting extremely lucky in finding parts for my build! Just scored a TR6060 transmission with only 20k miles on it from a 2010 Camaro.

People sell stuff to exchange it for money.

Somethings it really is that simple.

Old thread brought back. Life has been both fun and heartbreaking. Regarding the car/ engine swap: While I was traveling on the road, I sent it to a shop to finish the V8 conversion. 7+ years later, car was barely touched for the amount of money I paid. I sent it to another shop and unfortunately, 1+ years at this shop hasn't gotten it much further along. Supposedly it's missing a harness which they couldn't locate in any salvage yards or online. A few weeks ago I pulled the plug on the project. Spent almost $15k in "labor" and basically nothing to show for it. Yeah, I got scammed royally from the first shop. I believe the second shop was truly doing their best to get it done, but I'm just over it at this point. I've got too many other things going on and I have newer, better toys than to dump more money into an old car. Anyway, if anyone is interested in buying the car as-is with all the parts that were bought for the swap (engine, transmission, aftermarket gauges, drive shaft, etc.) DM me. Price is negotiable.

So sorry it didn't work out. Too much money spent to have nothing to show for it.  :barf2:

These damned shops taking on paid work that they can't start on anytime soon.  I think this has reached meme status, "car jail" they call it.  If they didn't think they charged you enough money to give you priority, then they should not have taken on the project and continue to deceive you.  My mind is blown trying to understand this thought process, because I am from the era where the customer is #1 and customers are not an inconvenience, both ideas I believe have been eroded from the business models.  I'm building my own car and it's taking years, but I'm my own cheapass customer, with more time than money.  I surprise myself selling stuff on eBay, I do anything I can to get the item in the mail as soon as the payment is placed, because that is what I would expect from any eBay seller.

Good news to end this story. Someone in NY bought my Sky. He purchased Sky 888 (fully built LNF) in the past and has wanted to do a V8 conversion. He came across my listing on FB Marketplace and we hashed out a deal. So, at least the project will finally get finished and by someone who already appreciates the platform.
