I purchased this intake and have a question. I want to use another filter (see pic below) for pure aesthetics. I did a search and found a dry filter I like and the dimensions are really close. The inside diameter is 3" and the intake pipe has a 2 3/4" outside diameter. To make the filter work I need to add something around the pipe that is 1/4" thicker that will also be stable. I thought about tape but I think that thickness will "move around" over time. Any ideas?

My thought is for you to use the included filter.
Can you elaborate as to why you want to substitute another one?

The only reason is the color. I just think the blue filter would look great under the hood with the new intake and DDM Works charge pipes.

Yep but you don't need a 1/4 inch spacer only 1/8 because it's a diameter.  Maybe another piece of tube you can bond in place or a bike tire inner tube.

He'll need the defective ones that have holes in them or no air will get past, otherwise good idea.

You can get a silicone adapter to maybe go between the 2, however if you do it, please make sure you can datalog your fuel trims to make sure the filter change is not causing and turbulence at the MAF. We are using the filters we are using because they internally have a velocity stack and it allows the air entering the intake to be nice and smooth and give a good reading at the MAF. If you use that filter, I have no idea what the MAF will read, so please check it.

Thank you Dave for the info and advice. I will run a data log using HP Tuners with the K&N drop-in filter and stock air box, with the DDMWorks intake w/supplied AEM filter and finally replacing the AEM filter with the AIRAID 703-410 blue filter w/silicone adapter. Expect the results in 4-6 weeks based on the length of the honey-do list and my work log.
