Okay, try this. I think the fact I'm left handed caused the issue. Here's the two pics, one of the torque specs and one of the troubleshooting for the klunk on a 2006.

I hear and feel a grinding noise when cruising and letting off the gas to almost engine brake.  It's not so much a hum, it sounds more like a mechanical grinding.  When back on the gas, the grinding seems to fade.  Is this the gearbox? driveshaft? rear diff?

I also have the clunk,  I got under it last night with a pry bar, the differential feels tight (mount wise).  I tugged on the LH/RH axles, they are tight.  I didn't see any leaks in the diff (unless it's dry?!).

I realize this is a bit of a zombie thread at this point, but did you ever resolve your noise? I've been having something that sounds very much like what you went through that started right after I replaced my clutch. Thanks

I think the replaced drive has suffered the same fate where I can "punch" it with my fist and get some noise. However, I did perceive an improvement when the driveshaft was replaced.

I still get some other driveline noises, like when cruising at 40 mph and depending on how the driveline is loaded (coasting, accel) there is some type of hum-grind.  I do have a replacement LSD planned to swap in (awaiting engine build), if I have any spare cash by the time the car is going together I am thinking about swapping the AR5 trans also.  Not sure if I posted it here, but I found notable gear lash at the output shaft of the transmission, but grabbing the yoke and moving it back and forth, I thought it sounded like the noises I was hearing.

I've found that the driveshaft CV joint is replaceable by itself, and because the part is shared with a Kia Sorento, it's inexpensive enough to give it a shot.

Well, unfortunately, the new joint made no difference at all. The original had very little sign of wear, though it did look like someone had forced it into place without dropping the diff previously, as the end cover was bashed in quite a bit. Oh well.
