HELP! HELP! Problem with brand new tail lights
« on: June 10, 2015, 01:04:50 PM »
Got my tail lights from GM and it seems that the seals are missing on both lights.

Have there been any changes in the last time or has GM just forgotten to install the black foam seals??

No one an idea? :idk:

Is someone owner of a 2010 Saturn Sky and can take a look at his tail lights?

Does someone have a good contact to a GM dealer?

Is it not just a piece of foam attached to the edge of the light?

Yes it looks like a piece of foam on my old tail lights, maybe it's just for closing the gap between the bumper and the tail light.

I'm just wondinger why the foam is missing on the new tail lights.

By the way the foam starts to weather and crumble after a few years.

Would be nice to know the reason for the missing foam.

Yeah just to keep stuff out, stop rattles too I would think. Should be able to get foam at the local hardware or auto supply store I would think.

Yeah you really wonder why the new ones don't have it.   :idk:

Cause GM wants you to buy the foam strip separately and charge you $10 for it!!!!
Sounds like something GM would do.
Remember GM didnt think spending an extra .85 for a new design on the ignition cylinder was called for even when they knew it wasnt up to spec.

They are closer to China than we are so they must have.   :cloud:

Tried to buy the seals today.

No chance! :gaah:

They don't sell this rubber foam here in Germany. :banghead:

Asked a mechanic and he told me that the seal is just for closing the gap and to prevent the tail light from rubbing on the paint.

If someone can get these seals just tell my I have a PayPal account and can send the money.

Over here the big hardware stores sell foam strip for sealing windows and doors.  Comes in diff colors (incl black & grey) and different sizes.  I got some for sealing my dash vents after taking them out and tearing the original foam - perfect size and fit.   Maybe you could look for that?

Example:

"That is my theory, it is mine, and belongs to me and I own it, and what it is too." (Monty Python)

It's because they read this forum
Know you have an Opel GT
but you bought a Saturn taillight

In fact, if you look out your window, they are currently watching you.

To be honest a new Opel GT never existed.

It has been and will always be a Saturn Sky Redline.

Rebadging doesn't create a new car, even if you swap some parts like the bumpers and the tail lights it will stay a Saturn. :D

Don't get me wrong I love my car and I bought it, because it is an U.S. car.

For me there will never be a better car than an U.S. car, forget  that German or Asian crap.

I agree even I consider Asian and European having a few nice models.

PS: It is funny how those words are coming from a German :))
