MAF pigtail
« on: July 27, 2015, 02:02:04 AM »
I've been troubleshooting a P0102 error code (MAF low voltage) and have narrowed it down to the MAF pigtail.  I have swapped the MAF, no help. While driving, I saw on my Torque app while driving a reading of 8.3 cfm. Unplugging the MAF completely gives me the same reading.  Then while driving I saw it jump momentarily to 234. I then stopped the car and started playing with the pigtail while looking at the Torque app's MAF reading and I could get the MAF to register every now and then and getting better readings. Even had it working for a short time.

I'm guessing the issue is in the plug.  I would like to take the plug apart and make sure all the pins are okay and seated properly before I replace he plug but if I must replace the plug I want to swap out the plug with a factory plug and retain the factory wiring scheme. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I have this AC Delco part but have no idea if it is just the plug or if it is an assembled plug with wiring.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

There should be some sort of locking mechanism that holds all of the pins in or a lock that holds each individual pin in. I haven't taken a hard look at how the connector works, but most are the same. In some cases you will need an extraction tool to free the pin from its lock . Again, I don't know specifically how this one functions, but they're not really complicated to figure out.

Yea I'm looking at the connecter and it looks like it has a tab on each side that can be released with a small screwdriver and then the plug separates the internal part from the external part. Just was hoping someone on here may have had experience with this plug and make my job a bit easier. LOL

Any reason you couldn't just solder the wires and eliminate the connector all together.
If ever in the future you decide you need to reverse this, just cut the wires and add the connector then.

Solder the wires right to the MAF sensor? Guess you could but I wouldn't feel comfortable with them being exposed to the elements thus they'd need to be shrink wrapped too...and that makes replacement difficult. But yea, could just do it that way. Would rather have the plug though.

Yea, I jumped the gun on that post
:D

If you have slack in the harness wiring, it should be pretty easy to get a new connector and press in the wires

That's really what I'm hoping for. Thought about getting a pigtail from ZZP, cutting and splicing that in place then just have a little longer MAF wire. Might be a good idea anyway considering my Turbo project. LOL

Well, found the issue. The yellow wire on the MAF plug is broken inside the insulation. The wire pulled right out of the plug once the wire retainer was removed. Going to need a pigtail to fix it right.

Can you just replace the crimp connector on the end of the wire or did it break too far away?

It broke about a half inch down the wire.  Looks like it would be just past where it would slid into the crimp connector.

You can get new crimp ends for the wire, a good GM service dept should be able to help you find the PN and have the part.

Call Crate Engine Depot and if Tom does not pick up, ask to speak to him.
He has never let me down for any parts I've needed

Got the pigtail from the local dealer. Not too bad and less than I was finding it for online. Sadly all the wires are white. Oh well...I'll live. Now will wire it up once it cools off. Thanks for the input guys.
