Parking lights won't turn off
« on: September 18, 2015, 08:35:21 PM »
So after replacing a motor mount and having the Sky inspected today.

I drove it to my Dad's and back with no issues.

When I got home I parked it and at 5pm when I came out, the parking lights were on.
[Side markers and the small upper lights in the headlight display and the rear taillights]

I tried turning the stalk to the off position, thinking the DRL sensor was stuck.
I checked the parking brake sensor and that seems to be fine.

I pulled a total of 4 fuses from the engine bay.
2 for the parking lights which I believe were 68 and 69.  (1 relay, 1 15 amp fuse)
2 for the DRL's which are 48 and 49 (1 relay, 1 15 amp fuse)

That did not shut it off.

I did not have time to troubleshoot, so I pulled the negative terminal for now, hoping to maybe reset something and not drain the battery.

I probably won't have time to play with it until sunday.

I searched all 3 forums and could not find anything.

Anyone ever run into this?

Dave , does the Sky have the Auto light setting that has to be reset? I know my Solstice switch was turned and the running lights stayed on . Took me a little time to figure it out.

Sorry I didn't read your whole post before I made my post for the above

Sounds like there is a hot wire making a contact shorting somewhere.

(Sorry) but I have to agree with SA.  Pulling 68 & 69 would shut off power to the lights.  So if still lit, there's a short somewhere/how.

Not that I know of
But the main engine ground is just above that.

Ill dig into on sunday and get back to everyone.
I was hoping it would be something simple but had a feeling its a short or ground.

I would start by pulling the  wires off the starter and see if the lights go out.

I worked till 1am on Saturday morning, then worked from 8 to 7pm on saturday, so I am going to relax a bit this morning and watch F1, then take a look.
The 2 things that were recently done was the engine mount and the driver fender.   When I got back from my Dad's I noticed the right fender support bracket was loose where it bolts to the frame.   I took the bolt out, put loctite on it and retightened it
So I am going to start at these 2 areas.  Then I guess, I simply have to go around and jiggle the wire harness to see If I can find an area that causes the issue.
I am getting the ignition recall done on Tuesday.  If I don't figure it out between now and then, I might let the dealership figure it out.

The engine mount was not replaced by a dealer.  If I don't figure it out today, I will call the shop that does some of my local work and just ask how they performed the install.  I have been trying to find the section in the FSM that shows how to replace the motor mounts to see if I can get any insight on what could have occurred, but I only have that in individual PDFs.   If anyone knows the section and can post up, that would helpful

Thanks

I've discovered some oddities.
I reconnected my Battery and nothing came back on.  Then when I turned the engine over, the lights and everything came on and then they did not turn off.

I jiggled around a lot of wires and I noticed that my ECU is just resting on a big loom of wires just above the section of the windshield washer bottle that is underneath it.
So my next step is to take off that fender and take a good look around.  My Fail safe is blinking like the tank is empty, but the washer bottle is full, so I have to check if the level detector is disconnected.

OK
So I read through the engine procedure and it looks like the engine is completely lifted off both engine mounts to do either side and you only have to disconnect a brake line clip and bracket for the passenger side.

It's probably the fact that my ECU is just flopping around.

Could it be a courtesy setting that has changed since a battery change?

ECU doesn't mount super secure. I think there is a tab on each side. One may be broken. I had the same on mine. I think I secured it with a zip tie?

I got the ECU back into it's mount and cleaned up a bunch of stuff.  It did not help.
The drive side door fender is currently off the door.
:)

I have a friend who is kind of an electrical car whisperer.   He is the guy I sold my Buell to and bought it back from in April.
Also the shop manager of a local BMW speed Shop.

I think I am going to call in a favor.

Do they stay in indefinitely? Or did they time out after 15 min or so?

When I noticed it, they must have been on for a couple of hours.
I parked the Sky, did not notice they were on and went back to work.
at 5pm, I noticed they were on.

I got the ECU back into it's mount and cleaned up a bunch of stuff.  It did not help.
Given you pulled the fuses and the lights stayed on, means that something else is supplying that current.  The ECM is not involved in the parking (etc) lights, it's the BCM that is.  But even so, if the fuse is pulled the BCM cannot light the lights either.  In any case, it couldn't the "floppy ECU".

There's got to be a short or a mis-connection somewhere.

The car is also supposed to sense a power draw and the BCM turns off power to the circuit after 20 mins right?  Assuming that feature is for the lights/cigarette lighter circuits you must have a short to a circuit that is not controlled by the BCM.
