Man that's how they all are. The synchro are all out. Why has no one made an upgrade for this transmission yet?

FYI -
Those 4 transmissions are actually right behind us, they have been sitting outside for about 6 years now unprotected without the bellhousings on. I just looked and atleast one is a torque arm transmission. Also, it says on the top of his Craigslist ad $400 now a piece. I would think that you could get them for even less than that right now though, as the guy that owns them is probably very open to offers on them right now.

Hope that helps,
Dave

You could go with a 6 speed.

Exactly what speed do you cruise at that you find it too high rpm in 5th in the normal gearbox?  Never understood the need/want for a 6 speed.  More weight to no good end.

It would certainly be nice to have a box that's smoother/nicer shifting than the factory 5speed (6 speed or not).  From my understanding though (could be wrong) the T6060 is better from that standpoint.

I remember DDM Dave saying he understood the issue and was looking at a solution. Not sure where that ended up.

No question that the Aisin isn't the smoothest box in the world.  I wonder if a redesigned synchro is possible?

It's not the 6 gears that make me want the t56 conversion,  but rather the longer gears to use my torque during acceleration. Also durability is a huge thing. I know the ar5 is a slid trans minus the synchros, but the t56 already has the better synchros from the get go. I have all necessary parts to up boost a little, so the small extra weight doesn't bother me

What does fix/upgrade mean?  I've pretty much accepted that the manual will never shift smoothly.  Not that I wouldn't be interested in a fix, but the hit or miss shifting issue has been going on 10 years now for some folks.

I think the "fix" revolves around the weak synchro issue more than smooth shifting.

I dont know about hiim but my research points to weak cast 3-4 shift forks and everyone seems to have the syncro issue. Im guessing better forks and syncros

I know the fix, but think I am not at liberty to state what it is.

With all that rust, can those transmissions work even if cleaned up?

I think that's just cosmetic rust, now if it's structural rust they might be hosed.
