Any mods planned this year?
« on: April 25, 2016, 08:31:39 AM »
Now that the nice weather is upon us are there any mods planned on the car?
I have Tomato Soup's blinker mod to install and a Homelink transmitter I want to get in the car somewhere, maybe on the windshield trim piece between the sun visors.

What are you planning this driving season?

I still have the blinker mod to install yet. For my garage door opener, I used one of the mini remotes, opened it up and soldered 2 wires to a black button style switch and then installed the mini remote with double sided tape in the windshield surround and mounted the switch a couple inches from it.
The road to success is always under construction.

I might do the same as you did but with the Homelink device, haven't decided yet how to handle that one.

This is what I did with mine, but it was more work than I originally bargained-for.  I had to 'shave' the trim plate with a dremel to fit flush (the windshield trim was not as flat as I thought) and then a couple of countersunk bolts through the trim and header into a couple of nuts glued inside the homelink box to hold it all tight together. I also had to glue rubber bumpers between the buttons and the switches, since the plastic of the windshield trim is thick enough to separate the two physically. FYI - note the red-marked PCB track on the first photo - that's the +ve 12V connection.

OH Mark, I SO want to put it up there. I have a Homelink module, a black one at that. Figured that a little shaving would be required and if I mess it up a new piece for the top of the windshield looks like it's about $22.

Anything I can do for under a hundred bucks...mostly going to be fixing stuff rather than mods, but was able to snag a ddm backbone during the winter, so that'll be going on. Mod budget = wedding budget :/

Enjoy the car, the wedding and all life has to offer in the future. There will be lots of time and hopefully money in the future for any big mods you want to do. In the mean time there are a few inexpensive and sometimes free mods you can do. Along with the Homelink, the mod for the flashing side marker lights comes to mind.

Door sills?  Real Carbon fiber?

I'd like to do something with my door sills as well but I'm thinking of changing the metal insert to plastic and having it laser engraved.

This is what I did with mine, but . . .

TS - I'm so glad to see your HomeLink install. That's exactly how I did mine a couple of years back. Same spot, same bumpers, everything. One of the best mods I've done! I got mine from a junked out Lincoln. (Took me some searching to find out how to program it!) Made sure I copied the programming instructions and saved it with the owner's manual.

I will finally be installing some BC Racing Coilovers this weekend.
Once I get my suspension freshened up, I will feel more confident in my sky safely handling its power and I will really push the tuning on the Dyno.

Besides that, I have been spending the past 2 months fixing my house and yard after our sewer pipe broke under the front door and leaked inside back into the basement.  That's been quite the hassle but should finally be finished next week when the new basement flooring is installed.  Excavation, new piping, wall demo, floor removal, etc....
I managed to tweak the crap out of my back doing some of the yard work and am going to a chiropractor tomorrow as it just does not seem to be getting better on its own.

Turns out I had a dislocated Rib.  I had that put back into place and am feeling better.  I am hoping to work out this weekend and also install my coil overs.  Was still too sore this past weekend.
Tomorrow, the basement walls are being repaired and the floor is being removed.  Next week the floor will be replaced and that should finish the repairs.

I am surprised how much grass already grew back, but will need to reseed one or two more times

Wow, that sounds like a huge effort to fix it. Such a thing over there can cost up to 5 digit prices? Or can be kept under?

Around $20,000 for the total bill.  Fortunately insurance is covering most of it.
