Intake Valves at 115K miles - no catch can
« on: November 12, 2016, 10:48:43 AM »
While I'm in here replacing my faulty injector, I decided to take a look at my intake valves.  They're not pristine by any means, but not as bad as I had expected.  Also, the inside of the intake manifold itself is very clean with only a little oil in it.

I've never had a catch can on the car, and never ran any sea foam through it.  Overall considering those two points, it looks great!

I would not be surprised if that has caused random misfires.
Clean them while you have access and you will be good for another 100k miles

Great view!  Thanks.

That gives a more secure feeling about (not) coking up over time.

I've heard of walnut shell media blasting and soda blasting.  *pretty sure* you don't just throw a bunch of walnut shells into your engine tho, Critterman.  We'll try that on your car first :)

No thanks, I think you have to take it somewhere.  I think BMW does it on their engines.

Just premium, no particular brand, really.  I fill up at Shell about as often as I fill up at gas stations on military bases - which are serviced by whoever is bringing it in cheapest, from my understanding.
