What a great article. I know it's been said before but all involved need to stand up and take a bow.

Good stuff, but I wonder when they're gonna actually have a replacement part.

If you have yet to get the recall applied, make sure you reverse any seat mods before taking it in!

Well that sucks, looks like I will have to pull my seat heater and lumbar support out prior to doing the recall.  Where did you get it done, Laurel?

I argued out of the lumbar, so I don't think that's an issue.  But heater mat is certainly a risk.

This was at King GMC in Gaithersburg.

It’s all utterly horseshit.  Seat heater or not, if one applies too much pressure in the wrong area of that mat, it will fail.  The PPS mat failures are due to physical breaks in the weak sauce plastic (and consequently in the circuit) and poor design GM spec’d to begin with.  Period!

The half-ass “fix” they’ve come up with is almost literally a fking band-aid.  As JohnWR points out in the thread you’ve linked, the presence of a seat heater mat might actually accomplish just as much in terms os adding a layer of protection!

So because of this recall if the part fails GM has to replace it if the recall hasn't been done yet but if you take it in and they add their piece of tape and then it fails we are on the hook for the repair?  Remind me why we should have the recall done and risk them f'n something else up in the process.

That’s been my feeling as well.  I’ll wait until I screw up and break my first one, THEN get my free recall done.

That's exactly why I did mine now - my original mat failed a couple of months ago and plus, I'd been reading all the horror stories about the replacements being in short supply and months long waiting lists.  In the end, my replacement was ordered and arrived in just a couple of weeks.

Only have 25K miles on my car, and it's garage kept (no temperature extremes), so I wasn't expecting it to fail so quickly.

See the thread I linked to see an update with invoice and charges.

Mine still works so it may be a while before it goes in.

The fix, which ever it is, the reinforcement or the pad replaceement, has a one year warranty from the date of the installation.
