F/S 2008 Saturn Sky Redline, $6k rolling chassis
« on: April 09, 2017, 03:28:16 PM »
Pickup only
Price Non-Negotiable

I lost a pin in my timing chain which has basically sidelined my Sky
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

At this point, I have no desire to spend any time or money troubleshooting what other potential damage this has caused.

As such, this could be a great opportunity for a DIY-er to pickup a sky for cheap and either fix the existing engine or do a swap.

Don't do it. You have too much heart and soul invested not to mention the money. Sleep on it Elff before you do anything rash.

If I was a mod I would accidentally close this.
Elf, take another look at it tomorrow and if you still want to sell it reevaluate your selling price. It is too cheap and that's makes it easy to be parted out rather than fixed. I could keep the rims tires,  coilovers and turbo and still get most of my money back if i bought it.  I don't want to see that happen and I don't think you do either.
I sold a70 cutlass convertible over 25 years ago that i still regret selling to this day. I think you will feel the same about this after it is too late to change your mind

Elff has been through a bit of shit with this car.   Last time I saw it, it was in really nice shape. If I were nearby I would have to take a long hard look at this purchase. Many good things have been done to this car.

Damn ... speechless.

I would let it sit for a couple of days/weeks and reconsider the decision.

This post makes me sad.  I agree with everyone else....let it ride a bit and reconsider.  If anything on the price.  There are way too many good mods on this car and people like us on the forum who know the car will recognize that.  Granted the engine is a risk, but still.

I have considered it and slept on it and I am selling it.
sorry folks
As people have pointed out, with the mods on this car, even with the non working engine, this is a steal.
Since I am not willing to fix it, I am not willing to part it out either.   Someone else could buy it, do that and make a profit

Oh man I wish I had 6 grand...how bad was the TC failure  (i.e. is it terminal for the engine or did it just jump a degree, etc). Id swap my engine over to that in a heartbeat.

It's always sunny in San Diego. Except during May grey and June gloom.

It is going to a good home.  I was sad the day mine left on a trailer. It was worse the day I saw it again at Nationals and someone had  damaged it. I wonder where it is now....

The engine Block is cracked as well
So basically everything I paid DDM to do, fell apart.

Was it a tuning issue as in it detonated? or was it a mechanical problem like the block was sleeved?

Simple explanation,  DDM built his engine not long ago.  The timing chain failed, the block is cracked, the engine is toast.

There were other things DDM did with the car while they had it that didn't work out well.

There are a few threads here about it.

I asked DDM to build me an engine
Rods Pistons
Ported and Polished head
Install a Meth kit with fail safe
Tune and Dyno it.
T56
After almost 3 years of time
The car was delivered to me
Dirty as hell and with the paint in sad shape
Multiple body bolts and parts missing
          Opel Gt antenna was gone
Plastic piece that goes around the OBDII sensor
          Lower bolts for fenders
With the meth kit disconnected
No fail safe
Basically flashed with the GMPP tune
And because they were taking forever and stating it was due to a lack of transmissions
I had them put their clutch in just so Imcould get it back

While DDM had it I was told by DAve that it was delayed initially because once they were done building the stock engine, it had cracked during the machining process and was leaking coolant into the oil pan.
The second major delay Imwas told that the second engine had the Timing chain guides incorrectly installed by the DDM mechanic at the time and when they tried to fix that some of the bolts were stripped.

So they decided to build another block

this is the one I guess I got when I finally picked it up.
When I showed up at the shop they were scrambling to install the meth kit as the controller did not seem to be working.
At this point I knew it had not been tune or run on the Dyno as requested but I was hopeful I could get the tuning squared away when I got it home.

By the time I got home (800 mile drive) I discovered it had a litany of issues
An exhaust leak due to the down pipe connection to the Turbo And the T25 adapter
A failing disaster of a cat/downpipe
Leaking rear axle seal
Leaking Turbo oil line
Crack in the welds for the elbow that was welded to the compressor housing
The large coolant line was punctured
The windshield washer bottle was leaking where they tapped it for the Meth level sensor

That began my multi year journey of trying to fix everything locally.

Ultimately it's DDM's fault
They did not deliver what they were paid to.
The work they did was sub par
They did not protect the car while it was in their possession
And as such are responsible for it failing
