2007 Sky Top Latch
« on: July 02, 2017, 09:40:02 PM »
The convertible top latch on the passenger side does not pop open when the remote is clicked. The drivers side does open. I'm pretty sure that the latch mounted to the underside of the trunk lid has slipped. The metal strip that releases the pin is moving, but not far enough. In the past it has stuck, but a couple of clicks and a tug on the fabric would release it. Now it won't budge. Any idea how to fix?http://www.kappaperformance.com/forum/Smileys/default/reyes.gif

The wire has probably pulled out.  Go get some clamp on small fishing weights and re-install the wire and use the weight to clamp it together.

I haven't looked at this system on my Sol yet but on other GM cable latches I have worked with the cable shield passes through a plastic part that looks like a long nut right before the inner cable exits.  If you spin that plastic nut you can take the slack out of the inner cable or slacken it if you spin it the other direction.  There is usually one nut on each end of the cable.

Your going to have to release the buttress before you can get into the trunk to repair what we are assuming is a failed cable. I tried to find info here but couldn't. There is a thread over on the SF that might be of some help. As Critterman said, a lead splitshot fishing sinker can be useful when fixing this.

I need to make a note of this thread as the buttresses on my car aren't always releasing. It takes a few tries on the trunk button now to get them to release.

I'll need to take some time and check out the links posted.

If you can afford it, all Kappa owners should keep one of these hook tools (pictured below) in the glove box.  If you look at the side that opens, hit the trunk button you can see a metal wire move, "mirror" that to the side that doesn't open and use this hook tool to manually move the metal wire to unlatch the buttress.

I had an problem with the buttress not opening, I found there was a bushing part that got lost, so look at where the cable terminates at the latching mechanism that moves the metal wire, compare both sides.  You have to pop some plastic retainers to bend open the carpet to look inside.
