Headlamps / clear coat is flaking off
« on: August 11, 2017, 01:25:03 PM »
After 9 years the clear coat which protects the headlamps is flaking off. :gaah:

Will I have to buy new headlamps or does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? :idk:

Wet sand and polish the lens. Then spray with a quality UV clear coat.

It won't last as long as the factory, but you should get a couple years out of it.

Just remember, any blemish on the lens will be there forever under the clear coat.  As usual, prep work is the most important part of painting.

Another alternative that seems to work well enough is do the polishing to get it clear again, then use a spray on headlight specific protectant.  I reapply after every wash, seems to be holding up.  Solstice replacement headlight housings are expensive.
