DDM flywheel/clutch isn’t cutting it
« on: February 22, 2018, 11:16:11 AM »
Just as the title says. I’m sick of my DDM flywheel/clutch. Holds up to the power just fine, revs fast, downshifts smooth.... but taking off from a stop is the most dreadful thing in the world and quite honestly that aspect single handedly makes me not like the car or want to drive it. (Oh and the chatter is annoying as  :censor: too)

With that being said: I will be cutting my losses with the fast revs and going back to the OEM flywheel and clutch. My issue is that I am currently making 375-380tq at the wheels. I know that’s a very delicate area for the stock set up. Some people say it can hold up. Some people say it can’t. I am a veteran with a stick shift and burning clutch due to driver error is not a factor.

But with all of this being said...

Does anyone know of a company that makes a heavy duty clutch for a stock flywheel?

And does anyone want a DDM clutch with 3000 miles on it?

Thank you all,
Johnny

I’m 420tq on stock clutch.

Just don’t power shift and drive halfway normal an you’ll get a year or more out of it

A year? That’s pretty bummer. Did you use ACDelco or one of those companies that produce parts to OEM spec?

Why not give these guys a call and see if they can upgrade a stock clutch to hold the extra torque?

I think it all boils down to that aluminum flywheel. Mine sounds like a tractor engaging a bushhog on the back. Holds power very well. That take off is flakey though. I’d have to go with another high torque clutch, but I hear pedal travel isn’t great.

I have the DDM Works clutch and flywheel also. 6k miles on it so far. I feel like this clutch has a long break in period because it  becomes easier to take off from a start after several thousand miles of driving. Either that or I just got better at it. The main problem I have with this new setup is I get wheel hop often when trying to take off hard. Anybody else experience this? Any way to fix it?

If you install really crappy rear tires, your wheel hop problem will go away

My car has ALWAYS had wheel hop. 100% factory to my setup today. I have noticed that it all depends on the temp of the tires and the pavement material.

spec state 3+ w/ spec FW, and be done with it.

No chatter on launch.    I only get a very slight chatter when I baby the gas between 4500-5000rpm.

but that's about it.
