PCV Baffles UNCOVERED - 2.4 LE5 Ecotec
« on: May 21, 2018, 09:46:45 AM »
I've been baffled by the hidden contents behind the steel plate and pretty sure this is not documented for the internet or is not easily found with google searching.  I am making heavy mods to my engine and prepping to weld bungs to the cover, so it needed to happen.  Notice how vapor from the bottom end goes through the two left-side baffles, where the dual-stacked baffles are for the PCV nipple.

Drilled out the aluminum rivet details:

Unboxed:

Underside of plastic (nylon?) baffle:

Dual-stacked baffles for PCV exit, it was actually very clean inside this pocket:

I assume the LSJ and LNF 2.0L 2.0 2.2 2.4 ecotec engines have the same design and I put these keywords here for crawling, catch can air oil separator.

At least GM tried. The two LS engines in my stable have both had sizable puddles of oil in the intake manifold from the stock PCV setup. AFAIK the PCV is just an open port from the lifter valley on those engines. I don't want to know how grody the valves on the new direct-inject LT motors get...

Hmmm, I wonder what those plastic baffles did when some of us had our covers powder coated?
Just trying to do my part...

It should be okay, Nylon 6/6 melts at ~510F

Depends on the powder coater, some will pre bake parts at around 500 F to remove any solvents or oil that may be in the pours of the metal.  I have had some parts that came back from powder coat and they were so hot that it removed the spring temper of lock washers.

I'm about 10 hours deep bathing and scrubbing engine parts.  Will be ceramic coating the whole engine, heat dissipative coating (Cerakote Transfer Grey), so the prep work is essential here.

Here is the oil pump, sending the gerotor out for WPC treatment:

Do you accept orders? :D ... joking aside, it looks great, very nice quality pictures (the effort is much appreciated)
