Hello,
Sara Greene from Knoxville, TN. Currently I have a 2009 Ruby Red SE Sky with about 73K miles. I enjoy reading about my car and how to do small fixes. I am getting ready to replace the passenger door handle so wish me luck. Not really a mechanic but mechanically minded. Thanks for the add.

Welcome to the forum, there are a few threads here about how to change the door handles out as well as how to reinforce the new ones so they don't break again.

Welcome!!!  Be sure to reinforce those handles with some epoxy before you install them. They'll never break again.

For the exterior door handles, where is the suggested glue spot?  Maybe I'm misunderstanding what breaks, so you glue the handle to the door?

I know for the interior door handle the cable attachement point is weak and my car was glued before and I use zip ties to reinforce the cable mounting when I'm messing around in there.

If you look at the back of the handle, it is hollow with two (I think) round studs sticking up that the bolts thread into. It is these studs that split. This can be fixed by filling the empty part of the handle around these studs with JB WELD or any brand of two part epoxy. Just fill the cavity up to but not higher than the studs. No more broken handles. let the epoxy cure before installing.
