It happened, "Service Airbag"
« on: September 12, 2020, 08:55:07 AM »
Well as it turns out, I'm out of town about 4 hours from home with the Solstice and last night when I started the car we got the "Service Airbag" message on the DIC. Got the chime, the airbag fault light on the IP is lit up, it's done.

Have to print up the recall when I get home and take it over to the dealer for the fix. After 12 years I thought maybe I'd maybe dodge the bullet on this one.

It's a gm.  You can't escape it.
LOL

Too bad the fix doesn't really stick.  Lots of people getting the issue after the recall is performed

I just ordered a 'fix' that I will hold in reserve. I had my car updated under the recall but agree that sticking tape on what may sooner or later fail is a poor substitute for  new design of sensor that is not subject to this sort of failure.

I am getting a simple fix - you just get under the seat, unplug the car harness from the seat sensor and plug in the module. It makes the car believe that there is always someone in the seat (even if and when the sensor fails again). Downside - you would have to keep the seat belt buckled up or you would get the warning light, and you don't want to use this if you ever have little kids in the passenger seat (I won't ever have the latter issue).

The good news is that the mat is toast now and as such the only way to fix it is to replace it. It's lasted 12 years and if the next one lasts half that I'll probably be good.

If I had to pay for the repair I'd probably consider the box that wspohn is getting and I'd make sure that the it was removed when I got rid of the car. When the mat was WORKING half the time it didn't turn the airbag on as my wife is right at the threshold for the airbag to be turned on.

I'll have to take it to the dealer the first of the week.

If your wife ever does enable the airbag, if you value your marriage
DO NOT POINT THAT OUT.

Ellf is that a lesson you learned the hard way?

Remember the pants never make them look fat, its their extra mass.  Just don't say that last part.

Took the car in yesterday and the service advisor said that it was possible that it wasn't the PPS in the passenger seat. I laughed and insisted it was.

I was right and when I saw her today I was sure to rub it in.

All fixed.   :tool:

Bad move - opens up the possibility that she had the mechanic slip some marbles inside a panel somewhere to remind you of your discourtesy  every time you brake hard!   That's like telling the doctor about to do your vasectomy that he is a twat.

Awe, not to worry. I've known the service advisor for years and have talked to her many times at length. I'm lucky to have a great dealership and needn't worry about marbles.   :D

Well at least until I start losing mine...

I have known Critter for many years and he didn't need to worry about marbles either.

Ping pong balls and a mod meet are another topic, and I did not put those in anyone's car.  I may have shared an idea with the wrong people but ....

Even more fun because they weren't ping pong balls but those nitrogen capsules that are in a Guinness can.  Somebody's Bruins lost to the Blackhawks that year and he owed me a case of Stout.  After several Stouts I had this idea that I probably should not have shared.  Oddly enough the two people that most would suspect of doing that prank were in no state to do it but two people that would be least suspected were and did.
