Fuel fill problems
« on: January 29, 2025, 03:20:41 PM »
Been a lurker for too long. Time to ask a question. GXPsy, 2008 GXP, 100,000 miles, finally has a problem I haven't been able to diagnose myself. The fuel tank is verrrry slow to fill, like a spoonful at a time. We replaced the charcoal cannister and the evap solenoid to no benefit. Any other places I should be looking? Thanks.

Also...no trouble codes have been set.

Did you buy OEM parts to change out things? Often times the Amazon and eBay stuff cause more issues than the solve. Were you able to verify the integrity of the components and the wiring with a bi-directional scanner? You may have a bad connection somewhere.
Just trying to do my part...

Thanks for the reminder to double check the parts. I typically get my parts from Rock Auto. The cannister was a GM part, and the solenoid a WVE. A two way scanner? Not in my tool collection, unfortunately. I wonder. Could I use my old dwell angle meter for that? As for eBay and Amazon...I try to be especially selective whenever I use those as resources.

Did you try a different pump?  I had a problem recently where the pump wasn't getting the air feedback and kept shutting off.

Tried several different fuel dispensers. Same outcome. Now I'm going to try to disconnect the hoses and blow any trash out that may be there. I have found some evidence that charcoal may be involved, possibly clogging a hose. The problem is getting the hoses to release. Especially the fuel tank to cannister hose...where the hose attaches to the tank. What a pain.

I finally got all of the hoses loose so I could blow them out. Yikes! That's a lot of charcoal. In the process the small t connector on the evap line (fuel pump to pressure sensor) cracked. Now I'm looking for GM 10351141 or 15285196. Apparently this is a common breakage piece and there doesn't seem to be any residual inventory available. So, what have the rest of you done about that? Thanks. Oh...after phone calls to numerous wrecking yards it seems that the wreckers don't value hoses. They just cut them off the vehicles. A pity. Here's hoping we can find one at a pick n pull that hasn't been butchered yet.

Thanks. Pat is already aware of it. The seller is out of office until mid March. We'll let you know.
