Any wiring specialist on here??
« on: July 22, 2025, 02:27:25 PM »
I have a 07 Sky Redline that was wrecked before I purchased it and the ECM and one of the plugs that goes to it was destroyed. I purchased a replacement ECM that came with both plugs and about a foot of harness. So here is where I need help, I started soldering the replacement plug/harness to the car harness matching the colors and wire sizes as I go. Now I am down to a group of 6 tan wires and a group of 8 grey wires that are all the same. According to a wiring harness schematic the tan wires are listed as function "low reference" and the grey wires are "5-volt reference". So here is my question, since the tans are all the same size does it matter which two are connected together as long as all are paired up? And the grey ones same question.
My though is if it matters which 2 are paired together then the wires should be clearly marked differently like the rest of the harness wires. I mean it's not like they ran out of color options.

I was going to look and see what the pin out/schematic was last night and forgot to do so.

I suspect that the reference lines are tied to specific circuits in which case you would want to keep those going to the proper pin otherwise the ECM could be miss interpreting a sensor circuit.

Why they wouldn't use different colors is beyond me but similar question would be if all the lines were the same reference then why run multiple wires?

Yes it does.  Although it's hard to read that, I must be getting old.

You will need to make sure the correct wire goes to the correct pin.

Good luck.  Is there anyone around you with a Skyline that you could do a wire trace on their vehicle for comparison?

GXP and the redline are the same for 2007 and 2008 from what I can gather. Tracing the wires in a bundled harness and with them all the same colour would be exceedingly difficult I would think.

The ECM schematics I've found are all difficult to read, some impossible.

Yeah a lot of the wiring diagrams out there are horrible.

There's about 2000 pages of data so probably pretty easy to miss.

I feel your pain after splicing in the stand alone ECU into my 06, big huge job and why it costs so much.  The 5-volt reference should be low current like XX mA along with the low references to give the sensors a reference.  I wouldn't be concerned about wire gauge for this application for a sensor source.
