GXP Coupe Overheating
« on: May 20, 2025, 07:44:53 PM »
Denise was out this past Monday with the Coupe, only for a short trip and when I returned home from work, I noticed the hood was up on the car in the garage.
She said the car temperature light came on about a half mile from home.

She said she was waiting for the car to cool down to add fluid.

The car was cool when I got home.  I saw the fluid tank was at the correct level, so I'm thinking either the water pump or the thermostat must be bad.
I pull the car out and let it warm up.  Temp climbs normally and gets to about 183 and holds for a while.  Thermostat and water pump is good, it must have opened and allowed cooler fluid to circulate.  It took about another 10 minutes before the temp started to rise again, this time it's upwards of 207 and climbing. The fan is supposed to come on between 183 and 200.

I check on the fan, and it's not running.  Temp continues to climb, near 210 and I conclude the fan isn't working.  I park the coupe back in the garage and begin research.

Recommended fix is to replace the shroud, which includes the fan and fan control relay.  This is quite expensive.  $422+ tax and shipping. Part no 19130227 fan controller

I did more digging in Google and discovered that the Crown Vic Fan Control Relay is the same for our car even though GM won't tell you.

Ordered a new one, P/N RY1532, it will be here Friday and I'll document the change out.

Yeah as you noticed a lot of people have had the same issue over the years and that Crown Vic one is WAY cheaper than trying to use "Genuine GM Parts".  Good information for anyone that runs int the same issue.
Just trying to do my part...
