DDMWorks Stage III Supercharger installation - Now with pics
« on: March 21, 2009, 01:57:36 PM »
Joe and I are down in Beautiful downtown Piedmont SC watching and working with Dave and Randy while they are installing my Stage III upgrade.  Because of my header, my install is always just a little harder to do than the others.  and once the kit fits my car it fits everyone's.

The trip down was good once we got on the road, I forgot my medications and had to turn around 15 minutes from the house, so it made us an hour late meeting up with Joe and Dee.  So they had breakfast and coffee while they waited.  We finally got started around 10 am instead of 9.  We stopped every few hours for nature and stretching and got to the hotel around 6 or so.  We unloaded the cars and Joe, Dee and I headed for the shop.  Chris knew better and stayed at the hotel.   We finally picked her up around 10 and went to dinner.

Friday - car goes into the shop and the work starts:  (to be continued)

Oh Boy Oh Boy, the problem car is here...

Hood Off

Pull out the complete setup from the Stage II.  You can see the FocuzTech Headers.

Upgrade the throttle body

Throttle body comparison

Install new crank pulley.  Stock belt goes back on and now supercharger has it's own belt

Close up of stock belt on and new crank pulley

Radiator fan removed to simplify things, notice the coil in the corner.  That is the ambient air temp readings you get in the Sky and on the Dashhawk of the Solstice.  It's behind the radiator, strange location!!!

Install and Remove the Supercharger at least 50 times for practice.   No not really, maybe only 49 times because of clearance issues with the header

The header caused the intake pipe to hit the frame and a bracket sticking out.  Dave used a plasma cutter to fix that...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCgnK-IGA7g

New CAI pipe had to made from scratch since.

CAI installed in the same box that the MACH II is for the GXP :woohoo:

You can see the new shock tower braces also

That... Is... beautiful... and functional as well no doubt. I love that CAI and a this rate it may be YEARS before I can save enough money to do all the mods I want to do!

Nice job!
Just trying to do my part...

As usual it was great to see Critterman, even though his car can be a little bit of a challenge sometimes. It was also great to have Joe down here and his help during the weekend was much appreciated. As usual the Pizza and beverages on Saturday night was great and we look forward to seeing everyone at the mod meet in May!

Thanks,
Dave

You can hear the car coming before you see it :)  thanks Joe for posting the pictures, I have a couple of the finished product I will post in the next couple of days.  The car runs like a top, instant respose to the trottle, and it still gets 28-29 miles to the gallon on the road if you keep you foot out of it.  9 hours and two tanks of gas on cruise running 65 to 75 :)

Finished product pictures, Joe had to leave and come home before it was put together and tested.  I took these pictures after I got home of the finished product.

The last picture is a figment of your imagination a DDM cold air intake on a supercharged Sol, it just doesn't exist...........yet

That is looking awesome.  I had a chance to see the engine before at the St. Patty's parade.  This makes me want to now get a stage 3.  Your killing me here, but the CAI adds a new reason for a functional hood scoop.

Love it, Dave can correct me if I am wrong but I usually pickup 3rd around 60, and 4th a little over 100.  It sounds to me like Dave is very close to redline when he lets off the throttle, so probably passing Randy somewhere over 95 :)
