Renee has 285.80 RWHP
« on: March 21, 2009, 07:37:39 PM »
I dyno'd my car this weekend in Greenville SC with the latest Wester's Tune.

Renee's mods are:
Solo High Flow CAT
Solo Mach Shorty
K&N Drop in filter
Wester's Improved Race Tune (nicknamed 5.2)

4th Gear Pull at 700 ft Alt.
285.80 RWHP @ 5100 RPM
318.80 Torque @ 3100 RPM

Dave said if I get the DDM Works Mach II, I should be over 300 RWHP.

So technically his updated tune got you about 5 more rwhp than his previous tune?

You actually can't compare dyno runs on different days on different dyno's. A dyno is a tuning tool, and nothing more. I am very impressed with the torque numbers, looks great Joe!
Let me quote a little something from the guy who built the pipes for my bike about dyno runs, he also built the worlds only street legal 200mph Harley.

Is an engine that produces 235 hp any better than an engine that produces 225 hp?..Well maybe it is and maybe it isn't. What is the definition of horsepower anyway? The common definition is HP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252. Everyone is so enamored of peak horsepower these days.

We hate to burst their ego-filled bubble, but in the real world it's the rate of acceleration that wins races, not peak horsepower. Torque is the most important element of the equation and if you can't produce torque in the lower rpm ranges it will take forever to get to the upper rpm ranges where the dyno junkies worship the God of peak horsepower. Every time you grab the next gear your rpms fall and you have to climb that elusive mountain to get back to those so damn important peak power readings. The rate of acceleration from one point to the next is how we judge a vehicle's performance, not how much peak horsepower it makes. The right question isn't peak horsepower but is the search for maximum torque in the rpm band that produces the greatest transient acceleration.

The next time you need a definition of useable power take a look at all the diesels roaming the highways. They are out there for a good reason, they make a bunch of torque right now, not at the top of the rpm band. A typical diesel will crank out 90% of its torque by 2000rpm!

Just some food for thought, I have pretty much the same setup as Joe and peak torque is around 3250 on my car, I am sure Joe's is close to the same. That is freakin awesome and says a lot for Lyndon's tune, check the torque spec's on a V-8 Mustang they are less than Joe's.

Awesome awesome, my car is at 237hp/300tq to the wheels.  Dont know why my hp is so low, i've discussed with Lyndon and he says it looks fine to him.

Mods...Dejon Intake/IC/spring and Westers Race Tune (91 octane)

I just installed Solo Performance Street Race exhaust, I wonder how much hp/tq it will free up?

Makes me wonder then.

Are Solo High Flow CAT + Solo Mach Shorty + Altitude changes etc. really worth ~40whp along with the westers tune?

Deep, looking at your graph.  It actually shows that your low rev torque is lower now?  Until you hit about 2600 RPM, you have a little less.  And a question....what's with the big drop in both HP and Torque at about 3200?  Is that the ECM pulling back on the turbo boost?

For those of you who get Dyno runs, ask for the file and download this program
http://www.bristoldyno.com/programs/RunViewer7.0.1.0.zip.  If the link doesn't work, search for WinPep7. it's free.

Open your run file.  I'm posting mine for example.  When you open the files, only the horsepower will be displayed.  Click on each side to change the parameter shown.

Apparently that "step" is not uncommon. The ANSWER as to WHY seems to not exist - yet. Here is mine.

The A/F leaned a tiny bit at the same time. When recording third gear "pulls" on the street there is not a drop in boost. After the dyno session Lyndon sent me a tweak to the tune but I have not dyno'ed it since. Given how many graphs have been posted on the various forums it is clear that they all have some sort of wiggle in the traces around 3000 rpm. Curious.

Critterman, I don't get that?   :idk: Are you saying the cam is changing what it does, which is basically just turn?  I'm obviously not a mechanic, and rarely sleep at Holiday Inn, so if you can dummy the explanation down for us it would be appreciated.  Get out the crayons, and type    r  e  a  l   slow please.

I think he meant "the cams are floating the valves" I haven't seen this yet.

The valves are not floating at three thousand RPM. In syock trim valves are going to float until the engine is north of 7500 RPM, and that would probably be catastrophic as this is an "interference" engine. The cams made be changing their timing, but that is a computer function and should be tunable.

Our cars have variable valve timming (VVT),  the cams are in a rolling housing that is attached to the timming change.   Below 3-3.5k the cams are rotating in on position, this is probably for emissions.  Above that RPM the cams rotate within the housing changing the timing of the opening and closing of the valves for more power.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_valve_timing
