HELP ASAP: Lowering
« on: April 15, 2009, 02:16:05 AM »
OK...I may know the answer to this but I need some opinions...I got Eibach Sportslines to be installed on my car next week...however, after actually paying attention to the underside of the car and not so much tire and wheel well clearance, I have noticed the resonator on my Solo Mach exhaust is low...like only 3 1/2 inches from the ground...adding to what the Sportslines will drop it which is from 1.7 to 2.3 inches, it may be dangerously low...what do you think?...should I trade them in for the Prolines (drop of 1 to 1 1/2) or just drop the lowering all together...also, if I avoid speedbumps, pothoes, etc, will the springs be stiff enough to not allow for bottoming out durig normal driving...thanks for any info or opinions...Patrick

IMHO  :2c:  Dropping two inches or more on these Kappas is too much for a daily driver.

I think you should go with the 1" and 1.3" if your worried about the speedbumps and how low your car will be. You definitely need to lower it if you want that nicer aggressive look so I would say just go with the pro kit or if you got the money go with the coilovers and you can adjust them to your liking.

PM Cheers, he had his lowered and now is reversing the process.  Sustained some damage.  Also DarkTech has his lowered and ripped off his license plate bracket.  I think it is a big mistake for a daily driver.  It does look cool but not worth it.

But is the GXP not 1" lower than the NA? I don't believe, it that's the case, that an inch would hurt. Is there a chance you could get a little more height on that Solo resonator?
Just trying to do my part...

The GXP is 5/8" lower than the NA, you don't have to buy springs to lower it 5/8", disassemble the shocks and remove the aluminum spacer and now you will match the GXP.  The Solo Mach on my GXP doesn't sit much lower than the stock exhaust.  Loosen the bolts on the exhaust clamp and support/raise the exhaust, then tighten.  Speed bumps will be a hastle.  stay away from them.   The flex joint is usually what scrapes.

Also DarkTech has his lowered and ripped off his license plate bracket.

That was because I was driving and a dead deer jumped out in front of me and laid across the road!  LOL!!!   I would have most likely ripped of the Fold-A-Way bracket on a non-lowered car also...

Of this we should speak.  Maybe a mod day event, or perhaps on a weekend before to leave space for those who travel great distances for these events.

Critterman, turn your wheels to the side and see if you have the spacer.

My car is a daily driver, 15k/year.  I have the pro kit on my GXP 1.0" in the front, 1.3" in the back.  I also have the Solo Street Race exhaust but it sits at the same height as the stock gxp exhaust.   I also have splash guards which hang below the car quite a bit.  Going over SMALL speed bumps, my splash guards always hit but I really dont mind since it's only my splash guards.  I would never dream of going over any speed bump that even looked a little big and also any driveway that didnt look almost flat.  One time I scraped the bottom of my car where the fender is and my car just got stuck on the concrete and I had to slowly back up.  Believe me, i've had my fair share of illegal U-turns due to speed bumps or inclined driveways (you will too most likely).  I've learned to memorize the streets that I frequently drive and now I have a general idea where the terrible driveways and speedbumps are.  I have OCD, so I never take ANY CHANCES on speedbumps/driveways.  But then again i'm also the kind of guy that parks the Solstice far far away and by itself whenever I go anywhere, and I NEVER take my car if I go to an amusement park or anywhere that I will be forced to park in between someone (disneyland, knotts, fairs etc).   lol, if you park at certain places you're just ASKING for door dings.

Joe, took a look at the shocks and springs.  There is a retainer ring about half way down the shock body, that the spring sits on, removing it will let the spring drop about 6".  I did not see any spacers, only the spring sitting on the retainer.  We can take a look next time I'm down there, or you are up here.
