Drag race results - 4/19/09 - my first time
« on: April 20, 2009, 01:16:09 AM »
The track was a bit slippery as all the other drivers were saying.  One guy knows he runs in the 11s but was 13+ all day due to the track conditions.

I ran from 10am - 5pm at the track.

Weather from reported weather for the day.

50 - 66 degrees
69% - 33% humidity
Mach Shorty
Wester's RACE Tune
Driver weight 290

I started with 5/8 tank of 93 octane gas and this is completely different than autocross.  It requires a whole new train of thought.  I really think that the turbo killed me a little with wheel spin especially since you cannot hear it.

Did you deflate your tires to 19 psi for the track?  Times seem high but you did say that the track wasn't that good.  You can see on your second run that TC slowed you down on you on the 60ft time

Last on threw me, until I saw the heading on it, I was going to ask if you used a different car.

It's all about getting out of the hole and theire are verious was to do that, I'm not very good and it takes a lot of practice.  The best time I have seen from a GXP was Rusty at Cecil county and he turned a 13.85, but he does work there and I think knows all the tricks.

Joe's best time that same day was a 14.01, mine with a stage I supercharger was 14.102.

Tire pressure around 20 lbs,  you should be able to launch around 2-2.5k.  Some slip the clutch others dump it.   Not sure which way is best, with my stage III, I have been launching at an idle using both clutch technics and just burn the tires off in 1st and 2nd.

I ran 13.54 and 13.49 at Capitol Raceway last year, same setup, Westers Tune.  So sounds to me the track conditions came into play.  Also my car is stock except for the tune.  My brother in laws automatic solstice ran 13.6 that same day.  I would say try again when conditions are better.

Oh.  I was thinking about giving a run at Lebanon Valley one night this summer.  Never ran on the track before so I think it will be fun.  Also, are you running the GMPP Tune?  Wondering if you used the No Lift Shift Function and what you thought of it on the track.  I am so programed to lift and shift I can't seem to do it without trying too hard.

Did they warn you about the 13.49 and no roll bar?

I'm hotscott's brother-in-law.  Ran a 13.6 but no they didn't warn about not having a role bar.  Just told us to keep the tops up and we were required to wear a helmet.

Funny how you need a roll cage in a 13 second car but they'll let pretty much anyone run a low 10 on a street bike..
From NHRA

When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

Sorry didn't post the diagram.. but the cage cannot be four point in construction...

I was told I had NLS, but as hard as I try, the tach skyrockets to the top end.  I might have to make a call.

Well that was the last run I made while I was there, so no one said anything.  I even rented a helmet from them.  And I suck at drag racing, so anyone that is better, I am sure would get a time lower then mine with the tune etc.  Be curious to see what Joes car would run with the mods he has.
