As noted in my other post reviewing my new OZs and Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, my 2007 GXP and I just finished 2 days of really hard autocrossing. Great fun, but I need some advice.
Driving at the limit, several times, my car tried to "help" me in two really annoying ways. First, even though I disabled traction control ('Traction Control Off') I think ESC was still on, because the computer would not let me apply throttle as I wanted to when the rear was sliding.
Then I tried the hold down the button method, until I got both the TC off and ESC off DIC displays. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there was some residual ESC stuff going nonetheless. . . .
Second, and even more distressing, right after some really high lateral G turns, a husky, but slightly urgent sounding female voice emanated from the On Star rear view mirror. Things were busy in the cockpit at that moment, but I think I heard "Code [something or other]; dialing now." I quickly touched the button to stop any calls to Central Command, and was rewarded with a "Thank You, hanging up" or something.
Its odd because I do not subscribe to On Star, and really don't want my car ratting me out to "The Man" for tossing her around on the weekends.
I did not buy and prep this car to be nagged and "helped" by robo nanny devices. I get enough of that from the missus.
What is going on? IS there an accelerometer somewhere I can put a bullet through?
Seriously, is there a way to shut all the traction and stability aids ALL the way off, for good, once and for all?
And how do I banish Mary Poppins on her On Star minions from my car forever? Clean my room?
