Latest News from Lyndon
« on: May 01, 2009, 03:17:23 PM »
I wrote Lyndon asked him about what was up with the GMPP and the other new tune from things learned from the GMPP here is his reply.
I'm trying to get back to it....too many streetrod/racers/engines/swaps going on right now.
I hope to have the new tune sorted out soon...it's been very cold here still. I drive my car almost daily and am noting anything
'strange' -- and at this point I've got some detonation to deal with...but the car feels REAL good...
Then....back to the stock sensors and retuning...I'm trying to get the GMPP tune finished off first.

Lyndon

Remember his car has a Solo Street Race and NO CAT talk about open flow.

You know, I don't know much about cars and I certainly have never had a tune or wanted one..... but that has all changed! I am heading out to Westers Garage next Friday to get my 2.4 N/A tuned. Coupled with the GMPP intake, the SOLO header hi-flow cat and SQ 2 system, I think it will make a bit of a difference.

The cool thing is that I will get to meet Lyndon and learn more about tuning and tuners and dyno;'s, maybe get to video some of it and at least I hope a picture of Lyndon working on my car. I have to say, that I am very excited abut meeting the person who has done so much for Solstice owners.

So, my friends, maybe the reason he hasn't got to it yet is that he is working real hard at putting a smile on drivers faces leaving little time for development.... well that is my guess anyway. I will let you know if there is a smile on my face after my tune.
 :ca:

Get it while the getting is good.....

Ok boys, Joe and I just tested Lyndon's version 2 of the tune of the GM tune and all I can say is "Holy Crap".  It is so fast, I do not want anything faster.  I was scared and Joe drove and basically i said stop.  We blasted off and it never let up.  Second run blew the turbo hose off and that is with T bolts holding it on.  Any faster and I think we would had gone in another dimension.

Lyndon hasn't mentioned yet about that.  He is going to revert to stock and do some more tests.  I"m holding out until I hear from him.

On Chuck's car, the hose we blew off was the passenger one connecting to the IC pipe.  I was so caught up trying to do a HP Scan of the run and a Dynolicious run to capture HP that I didn't cycle through the DIC to put the boost indicator on.  I have no idea how much boost we had and the scan doesn't display boost.   We didn't get a HP reading because we didn't have the software on the IPhone setup right...

Its hard to get the HP setup right on the Dynolicious app since you gotta know drivetrain loss and exact weight of car with gas, passengers and etc. Do you guys have 0-60 and 1/8 times from the run using the app?

0-60 was 5.5 and 1/8 time was 9.17 @ 82.3.  I didn't rev up the rpms prior to launch and it seemed like a whole second from the time I romped on it and the turbo spooled up and threw us back into the seat.

Yeah you gotta rev it up to 2500rpm or so for sure which should show like 1-2 boost on the DIC and will definitely boost your times by alot. I have just the GMPP Tune, GMPP CAI and with a passenger / uneven road I was able to get 0-60 5.39 1/8 9.07 @ 84.2.  So your already close to my time when you didn't even rev it so it shows alot of promise in the tune for sure.

I am not 100percent sure how to get the horsepower ratings to work but I set the cars weight to 3150 with 0% drive train loss and during that run it said I have 216 Peak Horsepower which I don't know if its right or wrong for an automatic to have with the GMPP tune. But if I set it to 20% drive train loss it says I have 270hp. But this test was done on a sort of uneven / inclined road with a passenger. I really need to go hit a real drag strip lol.

I thought Joe did not floor it when I pressed the start on dynolycious because the pause was so long, also the reaction time from the time I pressed start on the IPhone to the time he hit the pedal, really messed up.  We could only do one run due to the turbo hose blowing off.  But Joe yelled holy Sh*t when we took off so I know it is something special. Impossible to use the IPhone and I also had to press record on HP tuners while Joe drove on a twisted road.

Anyway, we will try again but right know we are taping and mudding the drywall we installed in the basement.  Stay tuned.

Main thing is the tune is really hot and I wanted everyone to know Lyndon is still working on it.  He has the HP Tuner download from our run.

I am sure someone else is testing his tune of the GM tune with a manual shift but I do not know who.  I thought it was Lyndon himself.

We tried some more 0-60 run but there is problem with the tune.  It makes the tires spin with or without traction control.  We revved to 1800-2000 rpm, any higher the tires started spinning again.

I believe you don't have to take off when you press start on the iphone at the same time. You can press start on the iphone and take off when your ready, at least that's what I do and it doesn't hurt the time at all or anything.

What new times did you guys achieve with the runs today?

As previously posted, we tried reving up to 2100 RPM with the brake on and it just spun tires.  On launch the spinning keep up half way through first.  There is just no way with this tune to get a good launch without racing tires or on a drag strip.  Too much torque.  If you do a launch without reving up, there is just too much lag.  So we will either have to dyno it or take it to the track.

Always open for other ideas!  There are a couple more things we have discussed with lyndon involving shift points and the darn TCM so more to come I am sure.  As to dynolicious, you are correct.  I forgot, you just press start and it waits for aceleration.

Yes Lyndon is the test mule for the manual GMPP tune upgrade, he is testing everyday on his way to work and his way home. This is his busiest time of year, everyone wants there cars set up for summer, including us. He put just a little of what he has learned from the GMPP is my catless tune with the stock sensors, it is nuts. I fixed my exhaust leak and turned of the traction control today and it scared me, and he is no where near done. I was also able to get on the highway on level road at 72 mph I was getting 35 mpg, car seems to not have to work as hard to make power. I am as anxious as anyone else to see what Lyndon comes up with next.

Jonnymac, lil goat is about 5-10 miles from you.  I think he may have the 07 sky already on his HPTuners.  Do you have the GMPP?  Westers doesn't need anymore non-GMPP test mules

I have a 07 GXP, w/ MT5, with GMPP. With a 1/8 mile drag strip open every Friday night for street racing, cough, cough, test & tune  ;) About 15 miles from my house. And 100 mile round trip for work. If I could help out and be a test mule, if need be. It would get me off the fence an order my HPtuner form Dejon. I been hoping for Dejon to run a sale on the HPtune :D I guy can hope can't he.

Lyndon likes feedback, he usually sends new tunes to a few of us that don't freak out if they are not prefect, then there are the second level testers and you MUST have easy access to HP tuners if you don't have it yourself. Jonnymac I do not have the license for the Sky but easy enough to get, $99 to license your car, $299 to do all the Sky''s for that year. I don't mind installing it for you, I kind of like it gives us a reason to get together. There have been some awful test tunes, the current one everyone loves is called 5.2.  The 5.3 and 5.4 sucked. The difference is between the 2008 and 2007 the actual Bosch software is different, so not everything that works on one works on the other. Lyndon has a 2008, I am sure he would like some feedback from other 2008 owners that are running stock or close to stock setups. He runs Dejon intake and intercooler and catless Solo Street Race. I know HP tuners is a pretty big investment for just software but I sure as heck have never regretted it, I got my first and second tunes before Lyndon started shipping via email and had to ship my ECM to Canada twice, that was expensive and a real pain.

Hell - never need a reason to get together - my wife (god love the beautiful woman that she is) has about as much interest in my mods and talking cars as the family dog.  I'm sure she would appreciate if I had someone else to chew the fat with!

My RL is is a 2007.  I expect my catless DP to arrive this weekish.  I bought my Lyndon Race Tune through Saturn Motorsports - he gave me a REALLY good deal on a set of lightly scratched IC pipes and intake, so I gave him my business.  I have the car up on ramps for the next few days - installed the DDM race backbone last night - working on the probeam tonight.  Also did the FIAMM El GRande horn mod last night.  I pulled out my headlights to send to yellowsky in a swap.  He has a set with double demoneyes in them and wanted a fresh set to do a different LED Audi style setup - so no driving till those come in.

Say, you wouldn't happen to have a good way to extract a broken bolt from me overtorquing the backbone brace would you?   :banghead:
