2009 Plant Tour - Mecca III
« on: December 20, 2008, 01:53:22 PM »
Justmike, with GM and the economy up in smoke  :gaah:, has there been any rumor control about a possibility of a plant tour next year?

[Update - 27 March] Most likely the "Last Dance".  MECCA III Plant tour is on and scheduled for Friday 15 May 2009.  Fairfield at the Marriott in Newark, DE has a group rate for the GM Plant Tour for the Solstice/Sky Club at $62 a night.  (Reg price $79).  Plant tours usually start in the early AM hours and run through the afternoon in groups depending on the amount of people signed up.   Tour waivers are required.  They will be uploaded when they become available.  Sat 16 May will be a possible run to Ocean City MD, 2.5 hour drive.

I think the only plant tour next year will be in an arboretum.

Last time I spoke with JustMike about this which was at Halloween he mentioned that he wasn't sure if it was going to happen. If it was then it would probably have to be a weekday since at that time the plant was shut down on weekends. However, things have changed for the worse since then so I personally can't see it happening. Although I wish it would because I missed out last year and I would love to do the plant tour.

With the situation that GM is in right now and the expense of a MECCA III - IMO this really doesn't seem like an option this year at all.  :(

I was really counting on going this year after missing the first 2 because of work...what a bummer.  I really hope they can get it together and get this plant tour on the move.

I know that many of the GM folks there were really excited with the participation of the owners and my contacts had some great ideas if III ever transpired - would have really topped the last two for sure in WOW factor!

Maybe when they get this all turned around, the plant opens again, and Kappa sales are improved 2011 (year number 5 for the Solstice) ... we can plan a BIG PARTY in Wilmington!  :idk:

True!  This time there will be more coupes, too.  I haven't seen one in person yet, and from what I understand, there were only a handful at the last plant tour that were pre-production models.

We kind of got screwed out of the tour last year because some extras got into our group, 1/4 of the way through, they grabbed a guy off the floor and split us up.  He didn't know anything about how the tour was supposed to go or the path so we were back at the staging area 1.5 hours before every one else.  We missed so much.  It was my second time but Joe Jr, Tim and Dee hadn't been there before.  They really missed out. :(

It is ironic that the 2009 Plant Tour is in the Mid East section.  :D

They named the Middle Eastern states the Mid East section. Just seemed ironic.

I would have so gone to the plant tour last year but I didn't get the car until after the event. I should have said the heck with it and gone anyway. I felt I would have felt out of place without the Solstice. I'm going to be sick if there isn't one this year.  :(

The Mid East is the place with the oil. Probably the only place that will be able to afford the plant tour.
