Thanks DDM for letting me know!
« on: June 08, 2009, 09:36:59 AM »
Just wanted to thank you for letting me know when you installed my backbone that there was a leak in the rear end. I took it into the dealer and they fixed the vent. The plastic part had broken. It cost me 400 bucks but now everything is great.

Thanks again!

$400 to replace the vent tube, that seems a little outrageous.

They changed all the clamps and rerouted and lengthened the tube and replaced the plastic piece and on and on. I watched their every move and it was rather involved and cumbersome. And he showed me the broken piece. I have to trust them. They are one of the better places in the area.

Although it propably will not work, pay a visit to the Service Manager to discuss the fact that this has been a "known issue" with the Getrag diff as used on the Cadillac and Kappas, then ask if he could contact GM for a warranty adjustment to the bill. With the Chapter 11 and Pontiac shutting down it will be a hard sell, but you can't "get" if you don't ask.

I have an 07 Redline. It has a 3/36 on the whole car and 5/100 on the power train --- and so do you. When GM changed the warranty in mid year they made it retro-active to the entire model year.

I may try that. I'm just glad it's fixed.

I need to have an engraved plaque mounted on the bottom of my diff....all it needs to say is, "I vent, therefore I am"

Still have the original short vent, so needless to say, the diff is a constant mess. But it never is low on fluid, amazing.....

Yea, my tech said it wasn't low on fluid either but that it still needed to be fixed.

I had to find the TSB and show them to get it done under warranty, I don't think they should have charged you Smartin, this was a TSB. $400 to install a 15" hose and a small vent seems a bit high, unless they did other stuff as well.

I went to the Service Manager and he gave me no relief. He said I could contact Customer Care or some such BS. It's not worth my time to pursue it any further. I'm just glad I got it fixed.
