Doesn't look like we can do the 1/4 mile track next time. I see this in the rules for California Speedway

Convertibles
All racers participating with convertibles that are quicker than 13.99 seconds MUST wear a helmet.

Roll Bars & Cages
Roll bar required in any vehicle running between 10.00 and 11.49 E.T. (convertibles between 11.00 and 13.99). Roll bar/cage structures must meet minimum NHRA standards as found in the 2004 rulebook.

Heres the link to the rules.

http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/Tickets-Events/Events/2009/Auto-Club-Dragway/Street-Legal-Rules.aspx

I've looked over several other Solstice 1/4 mile times posted on the internet. In a nut shell, what I found was that it would take an 1/8 mile time of under 9.000 to beat the 14.000 1/4 mile barrier to warrant a helmet and roll bar. Naturally, your results may vary.

It's starting to suck to be me. I'm the only one that was at Irwindale on Thursday that did that.

Now my next question would be: How are these kappas that are posting 1/4 mile times in the 12's and 13's NOT getting banned from the tracks? I understand the NHRA rules as follows: First violation is a warning. Second time is banned for the day. Third time is banned from the track forever. I can't remember where I read that, so I could be wrong.

IHRA rules are less strict that NHRA rules. Find an IHRA track, and they'll let you run your 12 second Kappa. (I think the IHRA requires roll bars for convertibles at 12.5)
2005 Chevy Silverado Z71 Crew Cab, LM7 4L60E (What I traded my Kappa for. I regret nothing.)
2012 Chevy Camaro 2SS RS LS3 TR6060.
2021 Ram 2500 Cummins
2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. 3.6, manual trans.

Lighten up! I have a hard time accepting this comment from a Senior Founding Member.

Apparently you've never done anything for the first time. He was at the "starting" line. You can start your car in less than 2 seconds?

There are no IHRA Tracks in California.  We're screwed.

Irwindale + helmet it is.  I plan on having to use a helmet soon ;)

Let me know if you do, I might try and tag along. I've been trying to go for the past two weeks, but it keeps raining on Friday nights...
 :gaah:

Maybe we should look into doing a track day there sometime, I think there are quite a few people on here within driving distance. We could either just all show up for one of the street car events, or look into renting the track out.

Could just buy a hard top for 1600$ and not have to use a roll bar / cage I am guessing lol.

Its an outdated rule that should be lobbied to be changed..I would say 12.99 would be a roll bar/cage requirement..what gets me is you can buy a Hayabusa that will run low 10's all day on two wheels ( one wheel for most of the track) all you need is a leather suit and a helmet..

I seem to be technology challenged in the posting up the pictures thing here, so...

R/T.....1.397
60'......1.908
330.....5.523
1/8.....8.537
MPH...80.74

This was my third run of five for the day. I had never done this before, either. I'll post up the times for the other runs later.

When I picked up this time slip, the track official asked me where my helmet was. After I told him that I didn't have one he told me to slow it down or park it. Regardless of his warning, I unsuccessfully tried to beat it.

Yea the 1st is always the worst, but damn he was like  :brnout: and u were like   LOL

My First was:                        The Second was

R/T....0.778                          R/T....0.869
60'.....2.054                          60'.....2.051
330....5.724                          330....5.729
1/8....8.764                          1/8....8.770
MPH..80.35                           MPH..80.42

You have my third run times in my previous post. Stay "tuned" for the other two. As you can see, my R/T went from bad to worse. In fact, my worst R/T was in my best E/T run.

First two runs I drove around the water box to keep my street tires dry, brake torqued my automatic to just over 2k and let 'er rip. Third time, I smoked 'em up in the water box. I felt more confident and revved up to over 3k. My R/T was in the toilet because I sat there at the line spinning my tires when the light turned green. Once I hooked up, the numbers speak for themselves, I was outta there!

lol for the record...that Westers vs. BSR video isnt a fair comparison, obviously I was getting the sh!tiest launches in human history.  I basically rolled over the starting line instead of shooting out of the hole.   I still managed to get a high MPH though, I think the highest MPH of the day with 81.4 MPH (9.34 1/8) against bob and 81.56 MPH (9.139) against Filipp.

Still a lot of room for improvment for me.
