Extended Warranty
« on: June 17, 2009, 05:40:17 PM »
Anyone buy the extended warranty with their car. My regular warranty runs out around November. Given the current Pontiac situation and the complexity of these engines, would it be a good buy,  :D or a good bye???  :gaah: I got one price about 9 months ago that was about $1800 to take it to 5 years and 75k miles. I know that we have a "drive train" 5 year warranty but what I read is that it only covers internal parts. No turbo or stuff outside the engine??? What say fellow GXP'ers?

I own a Red Line, but I would say read the offer over very carefully. There are some good warranties out there and some bad. Make sure it covers things like the convertible top, not just the frame. There are a lot of things to check. Just make sure you are well informed before spending the money.  :2c:

The extended warranty doesn't. Your 3 year 36k one does.

Gotcha!
If a person bought there Sol used and they still had time & miles left on the 3 year 36k  warranty.  The warranty would expire once the 36K limit was reached or 3 years from the original purchase date correct?

I bought mine when I got the car, so it's good to 100k/5yr as long as GM and Pontiac are still around :idk:

I have about 6000 miles left so I am looking into this, I tried one place on line and they wanted to know to much before giving me a price, that was a load of crap. I am going to ask the dealer, I expect big bucks but might be worth it.

Try Black Pontiac Cadillac in Edensburg PA...we bought a GM Protection Plan (GMPP) Major Guard (Bumper to Bumper Coverage) for 50 Months, 72K miles no deductible at the time for our 06....right at a year ownership for $1000.....google them...they couldnt be beat at the time we  bought ours which we did over the phone and quote via email...  but you must purchase before the 3/36K basic warranty expires........even though 07s have a 5/100 powertrain warranty...of course the closer you get to the end of the basic warranty, the more expensive the extended one is....

I am getting a quote from Koons, then I will have a starting point. They said the same thing get it BEFORE the warranty expires. I am hoping they will match other dealers prices, we shall see.

Most dealers don't support non GM extended warranties, so before you buy, check with your local dealer to see if they will use the 3rd party warranty company.  You may end up paying first and having to submit for a refund and that could take months...

I won't buy anything but a GM warranty, that's why I went to Koons first. As they say been there done that on the none GM.
