Waste gate rod adjustments
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:10:21 PM »
Who is playing with the waste gate rod adjustment after tuning their ECMs?
What adjustments are you making?
What are the results?

The GM Engineer on the main boards has the GMPP tune which should give you like 18-22 boost and he said he did 6 turns or whatever and see's 24 now. I plan to do the same with my GMPP but maybe in a month when I get my car back with a new engine lol.

When I took the shroud off of my turbo, I was AMAZED that there were only six "threads" (turns) left on the rod. After a tune file from Lyndon, I turned the adjusters two full turns and the car got all stupid, so I rolled it back 1 1/2 turns where is has been since then. I may take another shot at it next week as I have a two day Divisional this weekend.

I initially had my WG adjusted and installed Wester's tune. Got limp mode when the boost peaked for mor tha 3 seconds. I had knock also. So I backed it off til the knock went away. I'm about back to stock.

I've done 3 adjustments.
All like 2 threads at a time.
I have about 1/2" left on mine now.

Mine has been all over the place with varying results, it is dead center now. I did scans with the HPT and sent them to Lyndon and it works, latest tune for the no cat is 2 weeks old and GREAT compared to earlier versions. Do some WOT scans with HPT and send them to Lyndon, he will set the tune to match where your wastegate is set, mine was coming in to early and causing a bog at 3000 rpm he fixed it. The car is almost scary now, the more I drive it the better it gets, without a lot of effort I cracked 100 on a off ramp this morning, Dashhawk changes color when I go over 100 or I wouldn't have noticed. This new tune is HOT! Good luck Bob, give them HELL!

His response was adjust it until it limps !!!!!!!!!  That is EXACTLY like "star torque" -- pull on the breaker bar until you see stars, and back off a quarter turn.

I would make sure you have the same tune I do at least, it is much better than the previous 3. I would say adjust it until it knocks, that usually happens before limp. Put is some NOS octane booster then you can adjust it farther before knock, only brand I found that works, takes about 50 miles to get it to take advantage of the extra octane and bump up the timing but it will. I was spinning my tires going from 3rd to 4th last time I used it, it was raining but still, spinning your tires at 85+ in the rain is vary scary.

I have my wastegate back in the stock position...as that is where Lyndon told me to put it.  i am also running the current catless tune in the automatic and the car is just as lil goat described it...scary!!!  And...mine still has to learn in.

Actually, I DID ask for your tune last month. Didn't have to dyno it for the results. It just shows how important individual tuning is, as it was AWFUL at start up.  :( :cryin:  For at least a couple minutes it was unstable, and would almost not stay running.   :idk:  So I went back to a previous tune. Last week he sent me another tweak which seems fine.  :award: Lyndon has said that GXPs and Skys have different OS's, and I certainly see how true that must be.

My ONLY toaster I own makes bread turn brown.
